Abs : How many times a week?

How many times a week or how often do I have to train abs?

This guy at my gym suggests I should train my abs (and obliques) everyday.

Well, I have a little fat around my waist and on my stomach, and if I want to get rid of this, I have to train abs every day, squeezing the fatty stuff out. This confuses me, though. I was taught that fat burns only during cardio. My current abs and obliques "everyday" workout consists of ;

- Crunches : 30 reps x 3 sets
- Leg Raises (lying down) : 40 reps x 3 sets
- Side Bends (with bar) : 30 reps(each side) x 3 sets
- Twists : 40 reps(each side) x 3 sets


Training abs everyday is exausting, though. I've got all these other heavy workouts to do, not to mention cardio. Some euggests that I should train my abs every other day, or even less - only once a week.

I would be grateful if someone could advise me on ab workout.

every day is to much. do them 2-3 tims a week. i'll do 2 one with heavy weight and low reps and one with low weight high reps.
you need to tink about them as every other muscle the only thing they can is recover a little bit faster
if you want to get rid of youre fat you have to do more cardio and a quality diet.

I completely agree with you. Unless your getting ready for a show its really not nessary to do them everyday.

abs you can work as often as every other day. same with calf muscles.

Bang on! They need rest and recovery same as all the other muscles, and like Hdogg says - cardio and diet is the key to showing the midesection. Never in a month of Sundays are you gonna "squeeze out the fat" with training abs every day! :)
