for the last 4 months or so of training I havn't really been going to failure for anything...I used to do it for almost every exercise in the past but now I guess I'm kinda lookin out for preserving myself for the rest of the workout and also prevention of injury so I've pretty much given up on it. Does anyone think I NEED to go to failure every workout for a certain number of exercises or can I get away with doing it just every once in a while??

I've always worked out to failure, but I'#m trying to get it into my thick skull that it isn't always necessary. In fact I'm probably hindering some gains by not allowing myself to recover fully by training this way all the time! specially when the bulk of your routine is based around compound exercises!
I actually put up a post yesterday about training with less intensity for better results! It's here in the training section. See what you think.

Every couple weeks or so make an effort to go to failure on chest and arms. You should get a good pump.

If you have some sort of periodisation in your program, go to failure the last
workout(s) before the 'rest'week.

what you're trying to sve yourself for the isolation stuff at the end?
not all the time but majority of the time i think you should be doing it mate...
i mean less intensity more more volume lesss volume whatever stuff you're doing, i think you should be training your "hardest" for say 2 sets at least one warm up one working set, 2 to failure and then one scale back set smth like that
alwyas gotta push it tho

to be honest I was training to failure for Chest, tris and bis on selected exercises but on almost all other exercises I would always be 1 or 2 reps from failure, i guess i havn't sorted out any periodization with respect to a hypotrophy, strength or power phase but next week I'm gonna start pushing much harder and train to failure for the majority of exercises I do and see how it goes... thanx for the advice guys

basically training to a point at which you fail to be able to push out one more rep while doing a set on a given exercise
