Here's one on pain....

Please coment on what I'm experiencing with pain. Its pretty much the same for all muscle groups. Like I said in other Newbie Dumb Questions, I work out HARD. I don't leave any set without pushing reps out, with some pretty ugly looks. However, the only muscles that I actually get a "burn" during reps are quads. All others I can get to failure without stopping from pain during reps. However, it is true with ALL muscle groups that the next day, I still feel a little bit of pump, and I feel like I had a good work out the day before. It is the SECOND day after the workout that I feel some real pain. I suppose it is a good thing, but why the delay??? So, here are the questions:

1) Why do I only get a "burn" when I do quads?
2) Why does muscle pain develop the SECOND day after a workout??

Please make any other comments..

I'll be taking some pictures soon. A little longer on a good diet, and I might have something good to show!

Burn is different for different people. Soreness isn't the only indicator that you've worked which is why you can train to failure without being "in pain".
The onset of muscle soreness is also individual. Sometimes you won't feel any, sometimes you'll feel it the nexty day and in your case the day after that.
I was told once (and I don't know the scientific reasons for it) that when you feel soreness the second day from training then it was a much deeper working of the muscle, and that "you worked it harder". Whether this is an old wives tale I'm not sure, I presume it has something to do with the onset of whatever muscle building whatever in the body.
I presume it is soreness you are referring to and not actually pain as you keep calling it - soreness is good - pain is bad.
Quads probably do feel the burn more as they are such a big muscle!

as rocky said soreness occurs differently for different people. I'm kinda like you with respect to the fact that I feel the most sore the second day after a workout, whereas my training partner who does almost exactly what I do feels only a little sorness the next day and pretty much nothing on the second day. In terms of feeling a burn - ppl can differ in that too. If you really seek a good burn you can always just up the intensity (less time between sets) and do more reps
