Leg day is a totaling different feeling than any other workout day. You always know when its leg day, b/c you dream about it the night before, you think about it when you wake up, and when you step into that gym......it is your own personal war zone!! You don't notice the hot girl or guy across the gym, you don't get distracted by the clanking of other weights, you are totalling FOCUSED and think of nothing but blasting your legs into submission.
When you begin your first exercise, you feel a combination of fear, excitement and determination. After you hit the bike for a few minutes and maybe do a few leg extentions to warm up, you know you ready for battle.
Nothing can compare to Squates.....no one can sit here and tell me that this exercise or that exercise is tougher or requires more effort that a deep heavy squate. Not leg press, not deadlifts, not bench press, not barbell rows.....NOTHING. Equally, there is no better feeling than being on your last set and rep and having over 200, 300, 400lbs, etc. on your back and looking at yourself in the mirror, noticing the veins popping in your head, neck, arms, quads, and calves, as well as, the sweat poring down your face. While your looking at yourself in the mirror, you also feel like every muscle in you body is going to give at any moment...you legs are shaking, your back and abs are cramping, your heart is racing, your shoulders can no longer hold up this weight, but you are saying "I want another rep, I need another rep, I'm going to get another rep." And before you descend for your final rep, you repeat to yourself "NO PAIN, NO PAIN, NO PAIN. And down you go......you are now just below parallel, a time that I like to refer to as THE POINT OF NO RETURN. This is the point that determines 1st and 2nd, winner and loser, and for a bodybuilder LIFE AND DEATH!!!!
So you glance at the mirror into your eyes one last time and determine if you got what it takes deep down inside to finish this final rep. You say to yourself "OH HELL YEAH!" You take a deap breath, squeeze your abs, dig you heals so far into the ground you can feel them sinking in. And even though you have a spotter behind you, you have to get this by yourself, you must get this by yourself NO MATTER WHAT IT TAKES!!! As you ascend up you can feel your blood pressure sky rocket. At this point you are yelling and screaming, every vein in your body is showing, everyone in the gym is watching. Your almost there.....you can almost taste it.....one last push......Hell Yeah....I just did it. There is nothing like the feeling of racking that weight after a rep like that.
But wait....its not over. You still have the rest of the leg workout to do. So you move onto walking lunges. Now this is were you test your true determination and drive. Can you still go 100% after that brutal squate session. I think....no wait I know I can. So you crank up the tunes on your IPOD, grab the weights and continue to walk across the gym one leg at a time. I think the half way point is the hardest point when doing walking lunges. At this point your heart feels like is going to explode, you legs feel like jello, you hams and a$$ are cramping up. But you can do it!!!
After lunges you move onto a few more movements, maybe some extentions, leg curls, straight leg deads, etc. You push your self equally as hard, b/c you know LEGS ARE WHAT WINS SHOWS!! Nothing can compare to big, striated, deep cut legs!!!!! And every exercise, set, and rep are equally important.
You are done!!! Man the feeling is nothing like you could ever immitate!!! You feel like you have just conquired the world twice over!!! Because you have just accomplish what many have not, cannot, and will not. You have just compelted another brutal, death defying, and extremely painful LEG WORKOUT!!!!! |
