hey

my current training split is as follows

day 1 - chest and tris
day 2 - quads, hams, calves, abs
day 3 - OFF
day 4 - shoulders and traps
day 5 - back and biceps
day 6 OFF
day 7 - reapeat day 1....

i throw cardio once a week after training.
the problem is that lets take when i do chest on day 1 then they are sore up to about wed and when i train them again on day 7 they are sore again for 2 days. i train really hard in everything for about 1.5 to 2 hrs atleast. i was wondering since they are sore every single time, should i change it up so that i hit the body parts more like twice a week and lets say give it about 3-4 days rest instead of 5 or 6. because i dont know if this would prove that my recovery time is just a few days so every time i train it, the muscle is sore!

I had pretty much the same problem as you with my chest and tris being too sore so I changed my routine to:

Monday: Chest, bis
Tuesday: Legs
Wednesday:off
Thursday: Shoulders, tris
Friday: Back, Traps
Saturday and Sunday Off...

it may not be optimal for you to train bodyparts twice a week if you're having troubles with recovery time but I think you should read up on some different routines and training styles...

I agree with Makaveli on training twice per week - it may work it may not. The thing to ask yourself is, are you improving in each workout you do (or nearly all workouts) in some way or other, cos' if so, then what you are currently doing is working. It's all to easy to get impatient and think you may be able to make faster gains by training more often but you could be going down a road to overtraining and killing your progress. It's a long winded game. Having said this, it might work for you. Personally, if it ain't broke...don't fix it. If you do try twice a week, be honest with yourself as to whether it's having an advantage and keepo your eyes out for the early signs of overtraining - decreased enthusuasm, plateauing strength, irritability, etc, and if you see these kicking in - go back to what worked before!
Good luck man - let us know what you do!

no u got be wrong...the problem with recovery time is not that its too slow...its FAST. i use to train each body part twice a week but then i end up only taking 1 day off out of the week, since the splits where spread out. so every 4-5 days i would hit the body part. now this made me look bigger and fuller and the strength wat up there and i felt great. i got awsome pumps in the gym too. when i hit my arms that is bis and tris on the same day i see more results than if i do tris with chest and bis with back. and also when i did them on the same day, i used to train them twice a week. but now i run into a problem if i want to do a 2 day on and 1 day of split cuz then it means that its hard to get to hit the muscle twice a week. i dont know how to schedule it.
today for the 1st time i will try to do shoulders, bis and tris together and see if that works. usually my shoulders are very tiried when i train them so doing biceps is out of the question on the same day but ill try it today and see what happens.

No I got that your recovery was fast, but my pointy was more that if you are sore each time you train and you're improving I see no reason to train more frequently - but now you've stated that when you used to train twice a week that it worked for you so that's fair enough. I've been doing a similar split to you for a while (only doing shoulders on same day as legs) but I'm changing mine which will mean training shoulders with bis and tris!
If you want to hit the muscles sooner, try not to think of your split over a 7 day week. Perhaps something where you start the routine again on the 5th day so although you won't train each muscle twice a week but over the course of 2 weeks you end up training the muscle 3 times. So it works out more than once a week but less than twice, also it means not doing the same session on the same day each week!

Im a huge fan of recovery only since I have benifited so much from being brave enough to try something new. I tried mike mentzers hit trainning where you are required to train for short intense sessions no more than 20min. Now I'm only training 20min a week. Hitting a bodypart once every 14 days.

I was sceptical at first but everything has shot up a whole inch and my body is lookin awesome. (I will post pic's soon when I'm in condition)

Now Im not one of those nut jobs who think there is only one style of training but I do believe a lot can be learn't by experimenting with recovery time to optimise results.

You 2 seem to have 2 quite extreme training times. 20 mins and 2 hours! I'm a happy in between myself, but hey, whatever works!

you should try to keep it within 90 mins...try to up your intensity or dropping the number of excercises or sets you do coz your workout could end up being counter-productive...
