After a two-week holiday with no gym, I'm just beginning to get back on track training-wise. One of the things I've always prided myself on is having a good chest to waist ratio. My chest is currently 46.5 inches and growing, and my waist is now about 32.5. Now, I'm still trim, but I am carrying a little more fat than I'm used to what with all the bulking I've been doing, but at 6'2", do you guys think this still sounds ok?

Anyway, what I wanted to ask was if anyone had any good exercises besides regular crunches that coulc help pull my waist in a little.

with cardio is it possible u will loose muscle mass as well. for example, if u do running for cardio ur legs are worked too...they get ripped but if ur on bulking and want ur waist not to get huge and if u do cardio for that ur legs are not going to get bigger...right?

Na, cardio is essential on a bulk. Low intensity cardio should not really burn much muscle, and HIIT, sprints etc. are actually anabolic.

Low intensity cardio doesn't burn muscle at all. And HIIT only does so if you're not getting enough carbs. And yes, high intensity cardio is an exercise by itself. A very decent quad/glute/calf workout actualy.

I have to agree. I've done both with and without and without I put on far too much bodyfat and with I maintained a much leaner look. The funny thing is even though I was sooo paranoid at first I found that the cardio had zero effect on my strength and muscle gains. I didn't gain any faster when I neglected the cardio, though I was a bit more winded after high rep squats and leg presses. Most people will say whatever to justify leaving out cardio because it's extra work, you have to do more... it takes more time... it's laziness and nothing else. You'll definately gain "weight" faster without it but it'll be additonal FAT which gives the illusion of size. Once you diet your butt off to try to loose the extra pounds you'll probably be worse off than when you started. The classic bulk up diets don't work. :lies:

Try some hanging leg raises and twist your knees up and out towards the opposite side to get your serratus and obliques in on the action a bit.

Thanks for the input guys. Much appreciated. I certainly feel that a strong abdominal core helps with keep my waist small. Bridges, for example, help me to keep everything tight around the midsection.

your measurements seem really good man at biggest my chest has only gotten to 43.5 and waist not even mentioning it but now cutting down my waist has gone down but not enough even at my smallest i can get abs to 31.5 while flexed.
i wouldnt worry about it because if you're gaining then you're going to have to gain at least SOME bodyfat weather it be 1 gram or 1000grams.
for trying to pull the guts in rope crunches always work good for me
or try for deeper core lying on your back you need to try and tense your abs muscles, kind of like while pissing and "cutting it off". its very hard to get right and is only a smallish movement. once you can do that try bringing one leg up and down and repeating while keeping the abs tense. from there try "riding the bike" and see if that makes a difference mate
