use both, you must ensure you are using propper form, i reccomend reading some powerlifting websites to ensure this.

I havnt tried top deads, but i do full deadz and i would guess those would be better because of more range of motion.

top deads (rack pulls) are really good because you can go heavier and therefore place a lot more intra-muscular tension on the muscles. I use those more because im taller and have a bit of a bad back, but both are great.

Full deadlifts from the ground is the best.

I haven't done tops before, but love the full deads. I have changed to dumbell dead for 4 sets after 2 sets of barbell to tire myself out, just so the 150lb dumbells feel heavier. DUMBELL DEADLIFTS ARE AMAZING. Try them for a while and you will notice you back, shoulders, traps, and even legs are getting freakkin huge. :0:

Both are good, but obviously off the ground gives better gains, but causes more damage. Experiment wisely. GOOD LUCK

Yeah, I have heard that deadlifts can make your waist bigger, because it works out your obliques and pretty much every other muscle in your body. And considering the fact that your doing lower reps, it will defienately make your waist bigger. But that's nothing to worry about. Just use it wisely in your bodybuilding routine and you'll be fine. I recommend both full and partial. And like what MaxxxedPumpPimp said, "full deadlifts offer better gains, but cause more damage, while vice versa." Good luck dude.

Hmm I've been doing deadlift for 3 years now (for a whole year I did them 3 times a week) almost only low reps and I don't think my waist is bigger. Or even big.

It might work your obliques but that won't be a problem... Cause it won't make you look fat... I know a lot of bodybuilders who are doing deadlifts 2-3 times each week... They have nice bodys... You show me a picture were a bodybuilder has a big waist because of deadlifts..
They are only used as stabilizers
