i think the way you use your mind is a little different, if there is something that bothers you just dont hit the weights try to convert your emotions all your feelings your feeling and channel it to energy and you'll see every workout is a good one

I think that training is about 75% mental. but at the same time I dont think of anything else aside from lifting when I train. When i used to play baseball our coaches always said that once you walk onto the field, nothing else matters. i guess that just carried over to BB w/ me.

Your mind is in everything you do. You forget that it doesn't matter how big your muscle fibers are, it's still up to the central nervous system to use them (which is made of the spinal cord and the brain). Ever seen people making strength gains while cutting? That's not because their muscles are getting stronger, it's because their CNS is getting more efficient. And the CNS is obviously affected by emotion (hello, brain? ). If you're feeling like crap you'll have a crappy workout. If you're feeling "electric" you'll be lifting like a madman.

I feel that the mind is important in training especially in the aspect of positive visualization. In every sport I have played and especially in BB I use visualization to prepare myself and to allow myself to reach new heights and have success. It sounds kinda lame but I find this focus to be very important for me. :48er:

good post...

and what do you guys think about the placebo effect... if youre taking a supp and youre convinced that it will work you'll see difference and youre muscles will grow.

I think that placebo is a lot due to confidence. When you're taking a placebo you think you're taking something to make you stronger, and you're so convinced of it that you get great workouts and make better gains.

In sports, for example, it's all about confidence. If you feel like you can't score, you probably won't score. That simple.

What I like to do is take an mp3 player into the gym and have loud ass metal or some kind of fast beat music. I turn it as loud as it can go to drain out any thoughts I could possibly have. Then I visualize in my head the perfect lift, I charge the weight and I never look back. When I walk into to the gym everyday I think of one thing "I only have one chance to perfectly execute TODAYS workout."

Works most of the time but we all have days we feel like shit.

You can't eliminate the mind out of the connection. Even if you argue that you don't feel the muscle and your a pounder with huge weights. Your mind is still sending messages to your muscles to build to handle the extreme weight!

The placebo effect is the same as the psycholgical one - if you "think" it's helping - it is. As for the right mental attitude, we've all heard the stories of the mother who lifted a car off her child (probably an urban legend), and I believe there is asome truth to this. Apparently you only use a fraction of your brain and if you can tap into the right mentality you can achieve far more than you ever thought. The right mental approach is, for me, the make or break of a session and therefore your physique!
