How often do you guys train calves? Recently i've been doing them 4 times a week. I don't feel like i'm over training but it's really to soon to tell.

I only train calves once per week, and thats b/c for some reason my calves have always been big. so im just waitin for everything else to catch up. a lot of guys i know train them twice per week. i really cant say that 4 days per week is too much b/c i dont know your routine. so, could you post up your routine??? I know that its pretty tough to overtrain calves, since you use them so much on a daily basis they are able to take a beating.

mon.- 2 sets of 25 standing calve raises
2 sets of 25 seated calve raises
Tue.- Same
Thur.- Same
Fri.- Same
I change this up depending on how I feel that particular day but thats basically what i'll do.

hmmm...i think you would be better of doing calves twice per week and doing 3-4 workouts and 3-4 sets per workout. and as far as reps, i would stay in the 10-15 range for the most part, but go up to reps of 20-25 on your last workout for all sets. all this is just my opinion, but try different things out and see what works best for you. good luck!

Calves are just like any other muscle, they grow when stressed, but it's just that they can take A LOT, which people usualy don't put them through. You can eyther work them every day with a few sets, or just a couple times a week with shitloads of volume (Arnold did 15 sets, twice a week). Or you can always try rest-pause and super slow negatives (doggcrapp style)., this will work well too.

Also, cardio may be a good help. I know several guys with 18" calves just from playing soccer.

Try upping the weight more - you'll be surprised just how much you can lift for good reps. As everyones been saying they do a lot of work everyday - they can take more than you think!

Uriel is right on,

No chance of overtraining calves man, they're like abdominals, very aerobic and built for endurance. These muscle groups contract thousands of times per day and are capable of taking lots of pain. Ideally, you should try to train them every other day with high-rep tactics, preferably strip-sets.

Just remember to stretch them between sets! Nothing is more painful than calf cramps!

I'll second that. I remember having to forfeit workouts because the pain just became unbearable on the seated calf raises.

Help me...............I train claves 3 times per week and all I have at my school gym is free weights and a hack squat machine. Any good routines for someone with minimal equipment options? The funny thing is once I graduate from this college they are just gonna start building a state of the art sports rec center. BlackMoses
