First time posting.
Just started lifting wieghts and my goal is to gain muscle mass, but i really enjoy playing basketball 45 minutes 2-3 times per week. I was wondering if this will have a negative effect on my muscle gain?

Any feedback would be appreciated. Thanks.

BTW this site is great...

i'm the same way, i play ball all the time. i started lifting seriously around six months ago. like serb said bulking is almost impossible. i don't do alot of leg work, as in squats or extensions, but i do plyos. grab a couple of dbs and jump. jump on boxes or just jump as high as you can, this ups your vertical aswell as gets your legs used to jumping with the extra weight you might add from lifting. good luck and look for the Big Ticket to make a run this year

Hi C-Matic! Welcome to the site. Like Serbmarko said, you can use the basketball as your cardio. Since your heart rate is probably changing(while staying elevated) throughout the course of your 45 minute match, you can almost think of basketball as interval training. If your goals were gaining 10 lbs of muscle by January 1st I would be careful not to elevate your heart rate too high for any extended length of time,but if you are just looking to gain some muscle mass and stay lean, Basketball will be fit into your goals.

BTW?? Do you have any specific muscle gain goals?

Hey Guys thanks for the replies...

Banshee20:::

My goal is to be a solid guy top to bottom (overall strenght plus the nice physique), it's difficult to describe, myabe i can use the following as an example: not a bodybuilder physique but definitely not a tennis player phisyque either. I understand that those are two completly opposite extremes, but I would like to be somewhere in between....maybe Ben Wallace from the Detriot Pistons type of physique except for the hieght....

I am 5'10" with 17% BF at 210 LBS and for some reason all my fat is around my waist line...lol. I have been doing some reaserch to understand the world of lifting but there so much out there...and i thought engineering was difficult. Anyway, I came across Chad W's ABBH I program and it seems to have giving me some good results despite the fact that i have only been on it for three weeks.

So as far as muscel gain goals we can say, just enougth to not get pushed around that easy....

Thanks for the welcome Guys.

Just do wieght training and conditioning. With the weight training, you'll add mass while keeping the body-fat burning and low with conditioning and playing ball.
