whew just got back from the gym and it was one hell of a workout. it was chest day and i decided to mix it up. i did incline BB, incline db, flat db, flat flyes, pec deck, and i finished up with decline db. i was poking around in the training section and i decided to try to the decline movement, up until today i didn't ever try anything on the decline. i absolutely love it!! i just wanted to say thanks and if you don't do the decline don't be afraid to give it a try. thanks guys

For my chest workout I typically keep it something like this:

Decline Press(switched it to BB for a while)
Incline DB
Flat DB
Flyes

Any more then that and your PROBABLY overtraining it a bit. Remember it isn't about quantity its about quality.

thats not too much stuff. overtraining is overrated imo. and i usually do only 3-4 sets of each and only 2 on the pec deck which i just do for a stretch. if my math is correct thats about 15 sets. i had thought about doing heavier and less but i'll see

I used to start with incline due to teh fact that you can hit that muscle as hard as you want and not recieve that droppy look, but as of lately I have been doing shoulders the day right before chest so due to this I start off with decline to give me a good stretch and it also puts less strain on your shoulders when compared to incline or flat.

overtraining is overrated? hmmm ok...w/e u say. trust me ive been there done that.

yea i know i do 13 sets and u do 15. but I would say that I only do about 5 actual "working" sets. what i mean by that is a set where i need to really get focused

If he doesn't want to listen, let him trial and error the workout himself. Sooner or later he will realize what 80% of the people in the gym never do. Spending 2 hours doing one of the smaller body parts doesn't make you bigger.. it does the complete opposite.

i know overtraining can be bad, i don't mean to come off as a tool. i have a hard time doing really heavy weights because i have really long arms, i just make up for it with a few extra sets.

You don't have to always go extremely heavy to get a good workout. I mean it helps but if your not good at it now overtime strength will come. Read up on some different chest training programs and trial and error with them until you find something you like that works for you.

Just as a general point you do not want to work your chest over 1 hour. Anything more then that and 1) you need to increase your intensity or 2) you need to cut down on some stuff.

and always remember, variation is the spice of life!(dont always do the same workout)

i would say 40 minutes max for chest. well, i guess it depends on ur intensity but like digink said no more than an hour. at most, my workouts are 1 hour and 20 minutes and i work more than one body part per day. for chest since your arms are longer have you ever tried going w/ a wider grip? be carefull tho, the wider grip you have the more stress it puts on the shoulder.

the least i can do is give it a try. saturday i'll go heavy and hard and try and get out of there in less than an hour. as for the wider grip i have tried that with the bb and its been pretty successful, should i try and widen out with the dbs and not bring them together. i appreciate the input fellas

idk about DB's to be honest. you just have to go on ur feeling. like i said be careful w/ ur shoulder goin wider, you can f*ck it up pretty bad if you arent careful.
