I would only do one of them. If you ask me, behind neck presses are stupid to do. For one you can handle more weight going front and its much safer on your shoulders. Also, when are you ever gona lift something behind ur head?

Edit: i tried doing them a couple of weeks ago for the first time. my shoulders felt like shit afterwards. almost like a strain or something. they ended up bein fine but ill never do them again.

For some people BTN are out of the question. For others (such as myself), they're awesome. I can actualy do about as much weight as I do in front, and they feel pretty comfortable. I think it's just a matter of having good shoulder flexibility and starting out light to let your shoulders get used to the ROM. As for the question: in front typicaly hits the front delt harder, and btn hits the side delt harder. Eyther way, no, it's not overkill. I swear people are more and more afraid of volume these days. What's up with this whole <9 sets per body part thing anyway?

I'll never do BTN in my life... that exercise makes me feel like my shoulders are gonna pop form their place... as stated above some people will benefit from it and some cant do it...

i just dont like to press anything behind the neck... even pull downs behind the neck etc' it doesnt feel naturl for me.

Behind the neck presses can be dangerous if not done slowly and with perfect form. I was never a big fan of these because I go heavy on all my exercises and its easy to hurt yourself doing these. I would like to hear from someone who does this exercise regularly and get some feedback.
