I do mostly freewieghts and then ill do machine stuff here and there. With me, i have noticed that since im able to go heavier on machines, my other lifts will increase. Since you dont have to worry about stabalizer muscles on machines, you can just focus on the muscle you want to work. For most of my workouts, i will include one workout w/ a machine. but other than that its freeweights.

Dumbells are my preference for thier range of motion. I wil use machines as a finishing exercise or when im injured.

Freeweights, especially DB's, because of the proprioceptive benefits, greater ROM, and need for muscle stabalizers.

Freeweights are what I love, I will use machines if I'm going real heavy and don't have a spotter, but I choose freeweights overall.

functionality is what u needto think of here...

machines follow what they think is the range of motion... in order todo it properly then u have t fit the machine perfetly... if not its wrong...

cables are good but thy can pull on u in certain ways and un natural...

smith machine... just junk as u dont squat for example straight up and down...

funny i tried to use the smaith machine and just got stuck when was doin fitness at the marine base... dam that machine sucked...

so yes free weights are certainly way to go...

it is perfectly explained in supertraining... but again too lazy to move rooms and quote...

ditto....use up ur power movements and once ur stabilizers are too fatigued for max weights then hop on a machine and keep blasting it....variety is always good to

I think free weights are the way to go, but I bet you anything that if you are doing incline bench presses with free weights your arms are going to fail before your chest does. That is where I think machines come in play. I use more machines and cables come contest time, but that is just me. It is whatever your body responds to.

I've always made free-weights the core of my routine. Although, like some others I've tended to move away from barbell pressing movements favouring dumbells instead.
