When you guys do SLDL do you use heavy weight or do u do them as a stretching excercise. Just curious b/c i tweaked my back about 2 months ago and this guy at my gym says its b/c im going heavy in SLDL. He tells me to never go above 135ibs. What do all of you think??

i use to go heavy with it .. but not just too heavy that make do 6 reps .. no no .. i do heavy sets for 12 to 10 reps .. and it's a streaching movments .. you don't want to go crazy with it .. also after you've done squat .. you're lower back really exhausted .. and you don't want to hurt your self

try 135 for 4 sets of 15 reps, its a low weight, so u probably wont tweak your back again, and the high reps with really burn your hams

u can put your toes on a plate and u will feel a much better strech....i go heavy on them when i do them like up to 4 plates a side....u can also do hams squats by leaning over also put your toes on lets say a 10 pound or 25 pound plat for each foot and u will also feel a much better strech....they r both considered a compound movments so go heavy or go #### yourself but b carful espasilly on the hams squats not 2 hurt your lower back...and its all up 2 u u can do then with light wieght as well...GL...

I go with pretty low reps (6 reps) and heavy weight with stifflegged deads. As long as your form is good, "listen" to your body and you don't play a hero you'll be fine.

it wasn't SLDL .. he did 800 pounds with regular dead for the lower back .. but cost of redemption .. he did 275 pounds SLDL for 12 to 15 reps

I love straight leg deadlifts. I like going really heavy with dumbells. I do 110 lbs. dumbells with strict form on my last set.

Diesel, if you do stiff legged because you want to build your hamstrings, you shouldn't go too heavy. If you go too heavy, you won't even feel the hamstrings being worked. Heavy stiff legged are awesome for your back development, that has to be said.

So if you are doing them on leg-day, I would recommend 2 sets of 20 good reps with perfect form. Just make sure you don't lift too heavy. Do them after some heavy squats and you will feel a burn in your hams like you never felt them burn before.
