My normal leg workout consists of, Leg extensions, lunges, leg press, hamstring curl and calf raises,...i dont do squats cause the place i workout at doesnt have a squat rack only a smith machine and i was told its bad to do squats on that so i dont.

my question is in what order should i perform the exercises above, does it matter? i useually do lunges and leg press first then leg extensions hamstring curl and calf raises. if say i did leg extensions first how much would that matter.

Can I be brutally honest?

Find a new gym.

Without a squat rack - or a rack with a free BB to do multiple compound movements, you are really limiting yourself on potential gains...

I'd think in St Louey there'd be other options........

Alright.......... If you MUST stay at this gym:

Leg Press
SLDLs with DBs
Calf Raises

I am not a real big fan of Leg Ext's or Leg Curls on those machines..

I also think DB Cleans and DB Snatches would be something to consider as well...

Every now and then I mix it up and cup a 150lb dumbell with two hands in front of my chest and do some squats. That would be something you could try out if you have some bigger dumbells around

actually i have no other options,..the gym i go to is a snap fitness which is more targeted to women then anything else...but its the only option for me right now, because i have no car and its also 5 minutes from my house. and open 24/7 which is perfect for me cause my sleep sceduale changes everyday, i go to sleep and wake up at a diff time each day due to messed up sleep paterns of mine that i cant really do anything about.

cosign mags.

ya if youre stuck there do the compounds first. try front squats on the smith, its what i do when i go home fr4om college, gym near my house is the same. i join a better one over sumemr and winter breaks, but for thanksgiving and weekends home i just make do. one last thing tho, gotta get your sleep in order. sleeping is just as, if not more, important than training

Try zercher squats. If you don't know what they are check them out on youtube. You can do them from the floor.

i used to have a really tough time too, but i grew out of it i guess. what used to work for me is not forcing yourself to sleep. the more you think " i have to right now, im gonna be so tired, etc" the worse it is, at least for me. now i just wait til im really really tired b4 i even try to fall asleep. i realize thats tough when not in college tho. but now, i get like 8+ quality hours a night, unless i have a tricky schedule that week. im guessing you saw a doctor, or were those OTC sleep meds? definitely try the doctor if you havent already

I hope you've tried melatonin. I know a couple of people on here (including myself) take it, and love it. Within an hour of taking it, I'm so tired I feel like a zombie.

with very little choice i agree, nothing wrong with front squats on the smith and you can do split squats too, i only use a smith for split squats for balancing reasons. so many leg exercises you can do without a squat rack and still build solid legs. a lot of this year i hurt my groin and could not do squats, but my legs still grew in size/ strength. legs are the funniest body part to work because you can do so much with them, love working legs!!!!
Super quick list you can do:
Dbl Stiff Legged Deads
Dbl Split Squats
Dbl Step Ups
Dbl Walking Lunges
Dbl Lunges ( All 4 main types )
Dbl Squats
Dbl Leg Curls
One Leg Presses
Leg Presses
Side Leg Presses
Single Leg Curls
Leg Curls
Single Leg Extensions
Leg Extensions
Smith Split Squats
Smith Single Leg Squats
Smith Front Squats

Like everyone else, would not to regular squats on the smith, just does not feel right, hard to explain. As you can see you have tons of exercises to choose from and still get growth, strength gains will not be the best, but beats doing nothing.

personally i see nothing wrong with doing a variation of squat on smith machine.Spread your feet about shoulder width apart and put your feet out in front of you by a couple inches. These hit the quad directly. I also like leg extensions. They are a great warm up exercise and finisher
