I bought one of those head straps with a chain that hangs under the chin. I used it for a little while, and now I just use it here and there. The technique is pretty simple: you put some weight on (10 or 25# plate) and slowly tilt your head down then raise it back up. At first it never seems like it's doing much, but the next day usually says otherwise.

I don't use it much anymore. I just let my traps grow up around my neck...ha ha...still working on that though.

I'm pretty lazy/busy these days so I don't really do much neck training. Same as grip training, when I'm struggling to get in the gym they're the first two things that get the chop

If you're going to start neck training I guess the obvious comment is to be careful and work up to big weights - it's not something you want to go for a 1RM for the first time you try.

Also, there's four directions that need to be covered.

Extension - headstrap and a loading pin
Flexion - lying on a bench with your head off the edge and a plate on your forehead
Side flexion - bands or use your hands for resistance

Did you add much size to your neck with it? I go to a gym but also have some weights at home so I could train my neck at home on my off days.

Also what one did you buy as they vary in price quite a lot and I don't want to buy a cheap one if it is going to be crap.

I'd just stick to traps first and if you're not satisfied go from there.

I think you probably already know this but I'll say it anyway, traps are not your neck.

Sorry but I alway find it daft when someone asks a question on the training the neck with do shrugs.

I am very much aware, but unless you're an athlete with specific needs for neck strength/girth, most would likely find it unnecessary to build it up. Especially when you consider the likelihood of injury.

hey just grab a plate 25-45llb and a towel. Fold the towel for a pad and lay with your head off the edge of the bench and place the weight on the towel on your head. Obviously you need to hold the weight in place but use your neck to raise and lower it. Move around and hit all 4 ways.

Got anything to back that up? I've never actually known anyone who was injured doing neck exercises, so I don't follow why there's a high likelihood of injury.

You're neck'll grow, just work out and make sure to do shrugs. No need to train it directly, it hurt the time I tried. I was at the doctor and he felt my neck and he's like wow what's that, and felt again and said it's just a big muscle haha.

If you want to train it you can do neck bridges.

Sounds too dangerous for the minimal benefits.
