i have noticed from the video's if seen on this site that alot of people deadlift with an over/under grip. I always deadlift with both hands over the bar. Does the over/under grip give you more strength?..or is it more for comfort?

It's suppose to help with gripping it easier. Easier to control the heavy weight.

i think the reason for such a grip is, that when you hold the bar with both hands in the same direction the bar can "roll" out of your hands. But when holding it with an over/ under grip the bar would "roll" in two different directions...so it doesn't "roll" at all!

i hope that everyone or at least a few understood my theory *lol*

i agree with b sinning, i think, and i use the under/over hand grip because i get a stronger grip of the bar

Unsure, but Ive always done over/under. Thats the way I was taught. Im sure it helps with the grip, like a hook grip on clean or snatch.

I used to do over under, then swithched the hands that I used cuz I thought that one side would get stronger. Then I just started doing it with both hands facing the same direction. Now I don't even deadlift anymore cuz I go too crazy with them and always ****ed up my back. My max is (or was, maybe I got a lot stronger) 355, and that was when I stopped deadlifts 7 months ago. That might sound weak but I only weigh 160 lbs. Just curious, how much do you guys deadlift?

I've just started back at them after taking awhile off and I'm going to focus on strengthing my lower back before worrying about going too heavy.

Wow, I just got back from the gym today and it was a back day. My lower back is killing me and I didn't do much. I might go see a doctor. My friend was benching today and he pushed 325 and he weighs 180. I was pretty damn impressed.
