Hey, I think the end of this thread should be the truth. We all have strengths and weaknesses, my calves and arms are tiny, my chest shoulders back and legs are massive. We always want what we can't have, but work on your strengths and your weakness, but go with the flow and bring out the best parts of you, don't go overboard with your chest if it's not growing. If your back grows fast, let it grow faster and let it look freaky. People will notice what stands out most. I hope we all learn a lesson from this. Don't change who you are, use what you have to get you by.

yo, Jumk, I'm not trying to be an ass but getting stronger has nothing to do with getting a bigger chest, hypertrophy of the type IIA muscle fibers occurs mostly withing 8-12 reps so if he's focusing more for size then I would recommend that range, if he wants strength then go as low as possible and if he wants to activate type I red fibers (for endurance,) then go higher than 15 reps. No beef jumk, just giving my $.02

no problem bro, I get you arnt tryin to be an ass :ho I say stronger and you automacially think low reps- Thats not what I am talkin about( although low reps build slabs of muslce)

if he was benchin 135 for 12 then he builds up over 1 year using progressive poundages and rotates lifts and routines and now he is benching 225 for 12 you think he is gonna have a bigger chest?- YEa he is.

getting stronger is directly related to getting bigger.

you need to throw all those specific rep ranges for mass and strength that popular bodybuilding teaches you out the window- all muscle fibers have the ability to grow and it depends on the individual if he has an abundance of either fibers that will reflect what gives him mass and what he uses for strength. There are lots of people that got a shitty deal on fast twitch fibers in the genetic area thus they dont make progress on low reps- so they use high reps(12-20) for strenght and mass. the same is true also that alot of people have a ton of fast twitch fibers and dont gain shit from high reps . another problem he has is He is also using lifts that will give him no carry over when the main lift stalls out in progression(which it will, sometimes people go 6 months without it stalling out and some only go 6 weeks).

you dont have to take my word for it, you will learn the tricks of the trade and learn how to seperate the bullshit out when you get older.

Best of luck :garza:

Yes, when I get older. And you automatically know how old I am? Please tell me my age and your age. Low reps are guaranteed to build strength and not hypertrophy. I know guys that are 135lbs. and bench almost three hundred pounds. They have tiny little chests because they only lift for power and not for size. I do see your point that other things work for different people. But by trying to mock someone and saying that you will learn when you get older really has no relevance to the subject at hand. You might be 10 years younger or 10 years older than me, but your mental maturity obviously isn't fully developed yet. When you grow up you'll eventually learn how respect other peoples advice.

I have an idea for you to get a bigger chest. Stay big is right about the 8-12. Find out what weight you can only bench 8-10 times (meaning complete failure) and do that set first on flat bench. Then start to move down weight. Hit it up hard with heavy ass weights! You need to build some tendon strength to get a bigger chest and put up BIG numbers.

That's actually a very damn good plan, and powerlifters often utilize it. Good post.

Staybig and Jumk......... think about it like creatine. Creatine doesnt make you bigger, or stronger. It allows you to convert ADP to ATP faster. Thats it. However, this allows you to get bigger and stronger because you can work your muscle harder (IE 1-2 more reps per set), and do it more often (all your sets). I agree with what Jumk is saying. If you do a few weeks of sets of 3's, 5's, etc, you will get stronger. Than, when you go back to doing higher reps (like staybig is saying) BECAUSE YOU CAN LIFT MORE WEIGHT FOR MORE REPS, you will grow.

Thats not what I am saying at all- I am not talkin about low reps- you and the other clown totally missed the concept of what I was trying to say.

you are talking about periodization and that shit is so outdated its not even funny, If you are still doing stuff like that then you need look at your routine and switch it up.
and for the sake of discussion even if you do low reps and build up your poundages in the 1-3 rep range then it does not automatically mean you would be lifting more weight when you go back to doing 8-12 reps- it dosent work like that.

Easy with the insults bud. Ive never even met you. Yeah, Ill agree with you that not all rep ranges work in the same way for all people. So what is your point? That different things work for different people? You said yourself that getting stronger is directly related to getting bigger. I couldnt agree more. For a lot of people, they get stronger in the lower rep range. A lot of people get stronger in the higher rep range. The WSB program you talk about in another post as being the most advanced involves a hell of a lot of sets in the 5 rep range, some in the 2 rep range. And could you, oh great wise ancient(all 22 years old) one, since you have all the answers, explain to all us "clowns" how if your bench was to go from 1 rep of 225 to 1 rep of 315, that wouldn't translate to a higher weight on a set of 8-12? And if "low reps build slabs of muscle", how this wouldnt allow you to lift more on a set of 8-12 (since as you put it, getting stronger is related to getting bigger) ? Oh, and as far as periodization (which just means changing your routine over time) being outdated, do you have any references I could check out?

Ah, this guy doesn't wanna listen Eli. I'm never down with burning anyone, especially people I just talk to on the web. So this guy is on a power trip, good for him, he'll calm down when he's ready. I don't know why he thinks he's older than me, or why I'm a clown.

Yeah right  I could care less.
