imo if you start with bb than a full body session is ok but when youre training for about 3 month's than a split training is better because you can hit the muscle harder. altough if you have not much time but you want to train a circuit training full body is a good option. something is always better than nothing.

Most bodybuilders advocate a split where you target each muscle group once a week. I prefer this split;
Monday- Heavy lower body
Tuesday- Light upper
Wednesday- off
Thursday- Light lower
Friday- Heavy upper
Weekends off.
Made good gains with this over the last 8 weeks, I will start a 5 week strength phase in the next couple of weeks and then go back to this.

That is not entirely true, you CAN work the individual muscles harder because you can devote more time to them. But the draw back is that they only get hit once every 7 days, this would mean that you would have to drill the muscle into submission. If you don't then you are giving muscles too much time to recover after wach workout and therefore not maximising growth. I know that most of you will disagree, but I do stand by my opinion.

Full body workouts are not optimal. Follow a split whether cutting or bulking with shocking, periodization and tapering principles applied.

I couldn't imagine doing a full body workout in one day and really getting much out of it.

I use the following split.
Chest/Triceps
Back/Biceps
Shoulders/Legs

switch training traps between back and shoulders.

three days on, one day off.

This way everything gets hit twice a week. One back day focus on width, the other on thickness, one leg day focus more on hamstrings, one more on quads, with either leg press or squats everytime.

Best of both worlds.

Franco Columbu is the best

"Since blood is a great builder and protector, it's good to keep it in a specific area for as long as possible. For example, if you exercise the chest, a good area to follow would be the shoulders, not the calves."

Make sense now?
