To forehead or back of head?

For me I find go over the forehead slightly targets the meat of the tricep and takes some preassure off the elbows.

Your upper arms should be vertical. You should keep a constant 90 degree angle (or 1-2 degrees greater) at the shoulder joint.

Also, your elbows should remain at shoulder width apart. Once they begin to drift out the emphasis is taken off the long head of the tricep and placed on other muscles.

well that will take your upper arm past 90 degrees, take pressure off your elbows, and tricepts and use you back. You could just drop the weight

He's saying (I believe) you're recruiting your lats to support your upper arm at an angle greater than 90 degrees (to keep your shoulder from hyper flexion). Also, if it is significantly greater than 90 degrees, the long head of your triceps, the one the exercise is susposed to work, is not being recruited to the same extent.

Ahhh that makes more sense. I agree and I believe that propper form is 90 degree angle. About a year ago my most stubborn muscle groups were My calves and uper regin of my triceps (Medial and laterial Head). Not only was I experienceing to much preassure on my elobow which may be due to injurys from other exercises, but it was a little more difficult to target the meat of the tricep so I took the apporach as I did with my calves which was to apply more weight with less preassue. Now I dont go all the way behind my head touching the bench like some do or performing the exercise at the end of the bench to get maximum stretch but I do go over the forehead coming down about the middle of the top of my head if that makes sense. No doubt that it recruited the effort from my Latissimus Dorsi but because of that I was able to use more weight which felt like the tricep was being more isolated with more control and less preassure to the elbow. I see it equivlant to performing over head tricep extensions. For me anyways this has been a more superior way of performing Skull crusher.

This should be something you can feel. The pressure will come off of your triceps if you come back too far or throw the weight too far forward at the top of the rep. I find that concentrating on the muscle you are trying to work will tell you a great deal about your form and placement.
