I have a strange injury...that I'm not sure is an injury...

If I cross my legs or sit cross-legged for a short period of time (60 seconds) and then straighten my left leg, the knee hurts. Well, "hurts" isn't the word - imagine you're sitting cross-legged for an hour and then staighten your legs. You know that feeling. Everyone has that feeling. It's just that I have that feeling, and it's very intense, after sitting cross-legged for only 60 seconds or so, in my left knee...like straightening it takes me 15-20 seconds because I have to do it slowly ;-) It is a little better if I warm it up by doing it several times.

Any ideas? I haven't had any spectacular moments in the gym or anything. I've only been training seriously since last December...I do the usual leg workouts - squats, leg extensions, ham curls, calves, etc. For cardio I do either stairmaster or bike riding (outside on a real bike). I've never had any knee or joint problems.

Oh, and I'm 39 years old, which might play a role, too ;-)

Have you tried some glucosamine for a while to see if it helps? My knees give me problems when i kneel down for short periods of time and crack every time I get up. I know some people are against leg extensions for the reason they aren't good for your knees. Maybe that could be the problem. I heard that animal flex is great but I don't take anything like that so I can't say for sure. Do you get enough water during the day? Sometimes it makes my body feel better if it's hydrated enough. Just a few thoughts, I hope they help!

Get to the doctor. A doctor can evaluate what is actually wrong, while we here can only do our best to speculate what could be wrong.

I have prettymuch the same problems as you and gringo, I also get "that feeling" after sitting crosslegged and for a short time too, I get the same kinda probs if I sit in a small-space car where I cant move and stretch out my legs as I like. Glucosamine would be worth testing, which I want to try to but dunno if I can get it (think you need prescription (sp?) here in sweden for it) but the wisest thing would be to see a doctor, like Thomas said

You could have what I have, mild hypermobility in the joints. It basically means you have bendy bones and it can cause problems with ligiments and tendons etc.

I had a doctors appointment two days ago when I only found out but it can cause cracking in your joints and pain because your bones can over stretch compared to your ligamints etc which you wont notice either because your bones are flexible enough to move that distance although your ligamints arnt really, so your basically stretching them constantly. (I think)

There a few ways to check aswell, you can look them up online but a doctors views are always going to be better than an internet test so be sure and get someon to check it out but thats my guess.

just dont sit like that anymore... your knee is not injured if you can still do everything with out it hurting. thats just a weird angle for you knee. its a hinge joint, it only goes two ways , back and forth.... not to the side
