Got a question for any and everyone...What kind of running shoe does everyone use? I am starting to have some major issues with shin splints I had no problem until I switched to a nike shoe and now Im absolutely dying form the pain in my legs....Im not sure if I posted this question before or not You know the old age and all lol I have been told that running on asphalt does it but Im not sure maybe I will start doing sprints again on the football field in town. Any help is appreciated.

stop when it hurts. start slowly running shorter distances and run on grass to if u can thats what helps me. depends how bad ur feet are if u feel pains in them u might need orthotics if u have flat feet etc
id run sprints for a while because its not constant running and u can walk to recover from sprints and that way ur legs will have less stress on them and recover for a next round of sprints.

for me i get shin splints worse wen ive eaten heaps during the day. if i dont feel full my running performance increases heaps. why? i dunno it just does

i have been using Under Armour shoes now for a few months and I like them. I always used to have shin splints, they aren't that bad now. I still get them, but I just ice them and do some stretching for them.

If you want to know some ways so relieve the pain PM me.

you can do a seach there has been a few threads on this before here is a qoute from dan which i thought was great.
'dude, shin splints are caused when your arch begins to fall and the muscle is pulled away from the bone. to properly tape for this condition you have to cut two pieces of heavy form rubber about 1" wide and 6 - 8" in length. place the two pieces of form rubber on either side of your shin bone and then wrap with ace bandage or the white medical tape. the form rubber pushes the muscle back onto the bone to heal properly. secondly, you need to tape your aches. you do this by pulling the tape from the outside of the foot under the arch up and around your ankle. the idea here is to pull the arch up supported to your ankle. lastly, as the others have said ice them down immediately after running to bring down the inflamation. oh yeah i used the dr. sholl inserts for my running shoes, the long leather ones. the ones that go from your heel to the ball of your foot.'

intersting it happend when you swithced to nike. mabey switch back. i love nike but get shin splints when i run on concete. ive just my first pair of asics havnt tried them out yet tho.

shin splints are not your arch falling... they have to do with weakness in your anterior tibialis.....they can be prevented with the right exercise. you need to strengthen your anterior tibialis, that is the muscle in front of your shin. sit on a bench and have some one pull your toes away from you . to simulate resistance... not to much. as they they pull away from you pull your toes toward you. repeat 3 sets of 20. you can also do this with bands. do this before you run and after... or before you go to bed... kind of like stretching
shin splints can also be caused from the shoes you were. nikes are a horrible running shoe because they only fit a standard foot, you need to get shoes from new balance or brooks... shoes made for running... not under armor..either there are different styles of shoes for different feet and running styles... like if you over pronate. there are many shoes places that speacialize in running and they will tell you what you need. dont go to a shoe store at the malll or a sporting good store. good luck with this... take those nikes back

Same here.I just got the some to and I love them. They feel better than my nike shox. My shox didn't last as long as they should have for the price. Hopefully the Underarmors last a little longer and they're about $40 cheaper.

but nike makes a shoe eps for running they had alot os sepcialized shoes not all are just a standard shoe. and brooks are a cheap as heck shoe way cheaper then nike. i was just in the running store here and talked to to guy nike vs new balance and asics. i actually bought both shoes asics and nike but there were both so awsome and a good sale. i dont know about that about 'weakness' in your anterior tibialas. i have abnormally large ones and i get shin splits. could it be because these muscles arnt stretched properly first.?
