if you are using split training shouldn't you maybe train chest twice a week? i dont use the split routine but it seems to me if you are using the split you are hitting most body parts twice a week. think about it, when you do back you hit bi's so they are hit twice and triceps get worked with shoulders and chest and shoulders get hit with chest. so it seems to me with the split you should have 2 chest days to even out with everything else. just some food for thought, keep in mind i do not use the split so i may be over-looking something.

Thats why I prefer the theory of whole body workouts. Compound movements insure the use of all muscular systems.

dude theres nothing wrong with working parts twice a week. Usually one day its the primary muscle (like triceps on arms day) and the 2nd day its a secondary muscle (like triceps on chest day)

its just that there is no real secondary day where your chest gets worked, like there is with tri's bi's and shoulders. so i think having another day set aside for chest maybe even if it is just a few sets would be beneficial. it would just be working it as much as you do the other muscles.

Well, it really depends on the intensity.

Working chest (bench, dips etc.) twice a week "hard" for a typical 8-12 week period, for a natural trainee, will probably result in diminishing returns. You could easily however have a "heavy" and a "light" day. Kind of like Layne's split of power days (high % 1RM) and hypertrophy days (8-12 reps, high volume, stop 2 reps before failure).
