I found that Dorian Yates' training technique does actually sound really good and really makes sense.
Instead of pushing the same weight for 4 sets at rep range 6-10 or pyramiding with nearly all exercises he would do a few warm up sets with around 50-70% capacity for 2-3 sets then the final set do an "all out set" which would be 6 reps to failer, then without stopping, his training partner would help him with more reps doing forced reps, then he would assist him again with 3-4 rest/pause or negative reps, untill the bar would absolutely not move.
Quoting "One set at that extreme intensity does the muscle building job....."
To me this makes real huge sense and i wondered if any of you use this technique.
I know when i sort out a training partner or if there is anyone near me at the time in the gym i will be asking them to spot me and i will be adopting this technique.

All the best

Well, there are many ways to rome, and Dorians training technique is defintly a hardcore method. Its quite surperior when you think about it considering the intensety, focus, controll, stamina and what not. Its not for the weak thats for sure! =)

^^ Agreed.

Dorian was a man of excellent genetic potential and took some very heavy drugs.

I would probably be injured within a couple of weeks.

They would say that he would be in the gym for 3 hours per week rather than 3 hours per day like many bodybuilders. I love the High Intensity low volume, you just have to keep focused at all times so you dont get injured.

That's one way that I'm sure would work great for while. Just another way to attack it. Are you referring to blood and guts? That video is great, who is the guy who trains with him and is yelling the whole time? That guy was hilarious.

Just be wary tho, because that style of training won't work with everyone. For example Jay Cutler is a high volume guy, Dorian's style probably wouldn't work for him. I've been trying to incorporate higher intensity workouts with less volume so I can get done in 90 minutes. Course, I won't take it to the level that Dorian did, course no one else probably can either haha.

Well...

I do something similar. I push pass the last 2 reps I could do, no matter how hard the weight. Bringing the intensity and somewhat breaking past the "pain barrier" as Arnold would say. Not the same but similar and just recently about 1-2 months the gains have been noticeably better than that of varied other training techniques.

Consistently could prone to CNS drain.

Hope that helps.

I used this technique on tuesday whilst training my chest on the incline the flat. Done a few warm up sets. then one normal heavy set, then one extreme set where i done 8 reps on my own, 6 forced reps, 4 negatives then rest pause for one set. Damn bar wud not budge a milimeter. And i also had 2 other exercises to do for chest then triceps and abs to do and after the first 2 exercises where i went all out i was sweatin like a mofo and shakin abit looooool did defo notice improvement tho on my chest. Doubt i'll be adopting this style every workout tho
