I dont mind th egrunting to an extent you know when some are just faking and wanting attention thats when it aggravates me.I personally dont get loud sometimes on the end of a movement I might let my breath out kinda loud but this is the way I focus.i save the urge and energy to grunt to get my last rep.

i hate it when people say that im loud, becuase 99% u can only hear me if ur like within 5feet of me, i grunt like dexter jackson. (just a strong exhale), but when someone bugs me about dropping my weight..i simply reply..."shut the **** up, no one else is complaining"

i only grunt or make noises on a few workouts, only the heavy ones:

squat, leg press, leg extensions, concentration curl, and shrug

i kinda lose myself in the gym, if i need to grunt, i do, it's not a big deal.

if you leave Cork alone he'll stfu on his own, .

hahah, great thread.
My thing is I don't usually slam the weights down,(but sometimes). I do actually make a fair amount of noise but this is more yelling out like when you're really pushing the limit. I don't know how to describe it but I make a fair amount of noise and this is part of how I express myself. Strength training is a big part of my life now, and its one of the main places I can just be how I am with no restraint. I put everything I have into my training, and sometimes this results in yelling out when I'm getting those last couple reps. My gym is a small private gym my company has and the people there know not to **** with me.

I'm leaning towards Cork's side.

I don't mind people lowering barbells hard, but it really annoys me when people drop the dumbbells - especially the heavy ones. Virtually all our dumbbells over 100lbs are bent because people dump them carelessly and unnecessarily. It damages the equipment and really bugs me.

The guys who grunt on every single rep irritate me too. They remind me of those tennis players like Sharapova and Ferrer who moan every time they hit the ball.

Interestingly enough, the strongest guys at my gym are also the quietest. It seems the guys who make the most noise are the ones who are slightly bigger and stronger than average.
