You will get gains in muscle endurance but not size. Thanks for your service!

i had a weight set with a training routine i liked but then some sorry f***er stole everything but the bench...i'm in the process of getting another set but in the meantime i'm just seraching around for things i can do with just my body weight and i do several types of push-ups...i was just wondering if i could get to where i want just by doing push-ups though because i'm fixing to go to the police acadmey then shortly after i'll be leaving for basic so i'll be gone for like a total of 25 weeks so i'm not really in a hurry to get another set of weights

Over the past few months I've made serious gains on my chest, and I've been doing only pushups for chest. I'm trying to get my back size and strength up to my chest for balance, but even just doing pushups my chest is growing.

The whole key is the way you do them. You have to mix them in with another workout. So, let say your doing back. In between set of back exercise, you do 10-16 pushups. Do this for about 10 sets, mixed in with everything you're doing.
-Also, the technique you use is very important. pick a hand width and positiong that distributes the weight across your chest. Do them fairly slowly and look into some different styles other than straight up down military style. Look up yoga pushups on youtube, those are what I always do. Not only are these better for posture, but they are just as hard if not harder than a regular pushup, and I feel that they work the chest more.

If you question is can you make gains in workout solely consisting of pushups and nothing else. Unfortunately no. Gains are very systemic. you need to be combining them with several hard exercises.
