I think most people don't bother with these because they're incredibly boring compared to the standard 1-10 reps most people do. straining with heavy weight for a few reps is way more entertainin and intense then doing a light wieght for 20-50.
I think in some cases it can be worth it to go through the motions even if one set takes forever.

Depends what your goals are and what bodyparts you are training. For example, calves are one bodypart that many need very high rep ranges to make them grow. I use 20+ for most calf exercises.

Why do you say that? Have you got scientific evidence to back this up? If you're relying on word of mouth,trainer-talk or personal experience,I know plenty of people who would disagree with that statement.

Nothing wrong with higher reps, though it is difficult to apply them to bodybuilding/strength training. Rarely does anyone perform in the 20-50 rep range, for size/strength purposes anyway.

Ill do it every now and then just to shock the muscles.Almost like a new growth spurt.
Also sometimes if i didnt get a good enough pump from my workout Ill throw in a burnout with 20-30reps at the end of the workout.

Generally for the first set to"psyc" myself up i tend to go overboard and try to hit the 20-30 rep mark.

In response to the post, it is all goal dependent. Higher reps (especially in conjunction with shorter rest periods) will build endurance. More/larger muscle cell capillaries will result from higher reps - which can be attributed to the feeling/sight of muscle gain.

For me personally, it is like Zir said, personal preference and 20rep range has work really bring out my calves. I was referring more to the idea that you can use 20reps or so, 50 i would agree is quite high and should rarely be used. You can disagree with me, however, I said MANY not all and not proven, use higher reps to bring out their calves. In no way was i stating that it has to be done this way. Sorry if you read it that way.
