I used to like to wear tighter clothes that showed off my physique.

Now, I like to stay hidden. I reveal as little power to my adversaries as possible, I let them think I am meek.

I am like a really fast car. Its more impressive when the sheet covering is whisked away for special occasions only, rather than seeing it daily among the hondas and fords in the parking lot.

I had a nice file of said studies..however I cannot find it.

Any how, force plate analysis shows that heavy squats do not place greater loads on the body than those experienced with running and jumping, which can be 6 times body weight.

Imagine how often we've jumped out of trees, from the top of walls, off roof tops, I've even jumped off the ski lift when I was a kid. Think of the impact of the fall in comparison to say, a 120 pound guy squatting 185 pounds in a controlled manner. If such was the case, we'd be a society of midgets from all the jumping!

Br

2nd: I just did a google search and all I can find are quotes from Mel Siff and other exercise physiologists mentioned in blogs, but no actual data.

Beyond the theorizing, here is one of the reasons people associate weight lifting with stunted growth: steroids.

Obviously and unfortunately they are negatively associated with weight training.

Estrogen is partially responsible for the closing of growth plates. This is one of the reasons women reach their maximal height early in pubertal development, whereas men can grow in height all the way into their 20's.

Many steroids aromatize to estrogen. This extra estrogen plays a role in the closing of growth plates. So, we have the following scenario that carries on (I imagine this taking place in the late 70's:

young teen uses steroids
teen gets really big, really fast
everyone knows he lifts (and lifting was not as common then)
he stops growing any taller at a young age
it must have been heaving lifting that stunted his growth
and the dogmatic rumor is born and preached.

Interesting to note, i ran across some research that showed that running can help bone mineral density (BMD) of the back/spine. Interesting.
