Neither the bike nor the elliptical can replicate what running on a track or outdoors can do. Dont be fooled guys.

Besides, if you take care of your body and run with full intensity, it should only last about 20 minutes. Anything more, and your just waisting your time IMO.

Also, taking in 8 packets of tuna a day is an enormous amount of mercury, even if it is chunk light skipjack tuna.

You should cut it down to at least a single packet a day IMO. Over a weeks span, that is even quite a bit of mercury.

Well in terms of HIIT, shouldn't you be concentrating on getting your heart rate towards 85-90% of your Max (Max Heart Rate = 220 - your age)? I go to a big university and in our gym I have the choice of either eliptical machines or an actual in-door track itself. I have found that for me, I can get my heart rate higher on the machines then the track.

I asked Zir about this, and he basically pointed me to a track. Essentially, we want MAXIMUM effort. Not just a high heart rate. And we want to make sure that we are using effective work to rest ratios. 1:3-1:5 work to rest ratios.

Additionally, when we go with 100% intensity, we dont have to train as long, which is one of the main benefits of HIIT.

Also, i rarely do my HIIT on a track. I do it outdoors. Yall dont have soccer fields or anything like a big open field to run on? Most municipalities have at least 1 park where soccer/baseball/etc goes on where you can run on.

Additionally, the benefits of a sprint on your core is really high. Sitting on a bike isnt the same at all. Nor is doing it on an elliptical. If anything, id stick to using a treadmill.

Is the cutting cycle supposed to be severe? This right now is like deprivation to me. Either I'm doing it wrong [not enough protein and good fats] or I'm doing it right.

And the mercury comment: I don't have a wide selection at all for my protein. I get a lot of tuna, some shakes and I used to eat a lot of sliced turkey meats. I eat a lot of tuna because the protein concentration is very high. I don't know what other foods in mass quantities I could make or reheat myself so I'd get a high protein count throughout the day.

Soy in super-large amounts might. But they tested males with protein shakes with varied sources.

One group was only soy protein, one group was only whey, one group was mixed. And the mixed actually had the best results from what i remember, and soy and whey shakes made no difference in muscle mass over a 6 week span.

So, the rumor is still there, but the study just goes to show that just because there are rumors and it makes a little sense doesnt mean it is in fact reality. I have myself mentioned staying away from high amounts of soy protein, but i dont advise avoiding it completely, especially in a decent serving amount per day from a lone source. (1-2 cups shouldnt make a difference at all, and its benefits definitely outweigh the costs).

Also, what study are you talking about Zack? The one about soy protein having phyto-estrogens?

Although this particular blog or whatever it is (im sure its by an MD or qualified professional, but it cites nothing) briefly mentions estrogen and soy, its more a warning of the soy protein and soy products found in our supermarkets in America and how it can be potentially harmful than it is a study about soy raising estrogen levels. It also mentions that flax seed might be a better alternative. Pretty interesting read, and makes me want to do yet more research.

in its description it says it works like a serm by attatching a weak estrogen to the receptor site so its more like a mild anti estrogen. Not all estrogens are bad some help if they are in fact weaker than that produced by the human body and more readily attached to the receptor site. This is why they allow you to build more muscle than an AI would cuz your cells still enjoy the muscle building properties of estrogen but the estrogen blocking the receptor site is weaker than human estrogen therefore less likely to cause estrogen side effects. So while unfermented soy does add more estrogen to your body it is undecided whether or not it does it in a hamful way at least from a bb perspective. If you read a few articles you will see that half say one way and half say the other.

I have read numerous articles and many of them seem to be mixed. However, i am after studies and one study i found showed that soy and whey mixed had a nice combination on muscle.

It seems the nutrition community cant make up its mind about soy much like numerous other food items like eggs and antioxidants, etc.

On that point, it really sucks when talking to someone who doesnt realize that particular point and they mention: "I heard so and so say it was bad, and there was a study".

All you can do is shrug your shoulders and say there is always a study bashing a food these days, just like everything seems to simultaneously prevent but cause cancer.
