Ive done shrugs before on the smith machine in my gym standing in frong of the bar. I was wondering if this is bad for your shoulders like behind the neck press or behind the neck pulldowns.

I have tendonitis in both by rear delts and when I went to the physical therapist they warned me that any movement such as the ones you mentioned as well as upright rows and standing front dumbell raises beyond parallel to the ground are horrible for you shoulders. When you shoulder is in these positions it places an impingement on the nerves and tendons which will lead to shoulder problems ie: tendonitis.

Still though plenty of people do these and have absolutely no problems in there shoulders. Just be careful and if it starts to hurt don't do it. Hope that helped man

Shrugs behing the back aren't really bad for you cause your not putting your shoulder in a compromised position. Sorry for not clarifying on that exercise
