Your body is using your stored fat as energy and your building muscle. That's not uncommon..

1g of fat typically holds 9 kilocalories.

The body is using anaerobic glycolysis and using that glycogen and fat storages (ALONG WITH THE CARBS IN YOUR SYSTEM- DON'T FORGET THAT!!!!) for energy so as to become more efficient.

The body does everything it can to become the most efficient it can be.

Are you sure about that?

The only fuel used in anaerobic glyc is glycogen or blood glucose. AG is the metabolism system used in very high intensity, short duration activities lasting 15-90 seconds (there about) or short duration intermittant activities with work to rest ratios less than 1:3. Generally, rep ranges greater than 8 employ the phopsphagen/creatine system and the AG system.

Fats can only be oxidized using the aerobic metabolic system. When you are recovering from a workout your body is rebuilding phosphagens and glycogen, here you are oxidizing fats for fuel to carry out these tasks.

So realize, your body can only use glycogen or glucose for high intensity, short duration activities.

Now, if you want to get all biochemical and physiological, we can talk about gluconeogensis and ketogensis as amino's, lactate, and fats are broken down by the liver and converted into glucose and other substrates for the body to employ as fuel. But realize if you want the most intense workouts, you need carbohydrates to fuel them.

Thank God! For anyone trying to get an idea of what Zir is talking about here are some general things to remember:

Glyco - glycogen or glucose
Lipo - fat
Lysis - break down
Aerobic - requiring oxygen
