Hello,
Got 2 questions:

1. Is overhead press and military press the same exercise?

2.Are there any main differences between doing the overhead press compared to shoulder press with dumbells?

they are the same thing
as for barbell and dumbbell the major difference is each arm will support the weight completely and is independent of each other. With a barbell, if you put more effort in only one arm, you might not be able to do the exercise effectively. dumbbells allow you to a better and fuller range of motion is lets you isolate the muscle more entirely.

I thought maybe one exercise would work a stabilizing muscle more than another vise versa
Because the weight is raised from a different angle and rotated in another angle in both exercises?
Like maybe more bi's with the overheads and less tris
and more tris and less bi's with the presses or something like that

i like dumbbell press alot more than the barbell version....it seems to give me a better range of motion and doesnt hurt my joints as much...i will do barbell shoulder press every once and a while just to change things up.

Dumbbell involves more stabilization and will end up giving you better results either way

i think its important to utilize both.. I don't know if I personally believe DBs "give you better results either way". I think BB press is a must movement for mass and DBs are a must for stabilization and isolation. Same thing goes for chest and bi's - BB movements are a must for mass and DBs are stabilization and isolation movements.

thats not entirely true....going to failure with heavy dumbbells are for sure gonna build mass not just stabilization.

If you wish to have outstanding stabilization when doing your military presses, do them on a Swiss ball, it will engage your core so badly your abs will hurt the next day, until you get use to it..

anthk summed it up well..

Barbells are generally bilateral movements
Dumbbells are generally unilateral movements.

Each require some type of core stabilization, but dumbbells focus more on each hand doing the press rather than both. I prefer dumbbells, more of a natural motion.

db's for me, gotta love the feel and it also allows you to work on a weaker side maybe add another rep to your left etc.
on a side note, doesn't it feel mad when you finally chuck those 30's (kg im aus) up on a OH db press for reps, makes you feel on top of the world.

I got one more question

Military press uses overhand grip
Is there a variation of the exercise where you use underhand grip?(palms facing towards you)

Why would that matter? If you want a solid reverse grip that would put the tension on the triceps, rather than the delts. Like zack said, you can try Arnold presses. Difficult and demanding exercise.
