A friend and I have been working out together for a while now always pushing eachother and trying out new things.. recently we have been doing dropsets.. its a straight through 5 set workout with no breaks.. you start at heavy weight and increase reps and drop weight. Starting with 8 reps then 10, 12, 15, 20 reps and no break straight through. We have been doing this with back workouts arm workouts chest workouts and legs..

our last workout was a backworkout this is wat we did.

wide grip lat pulldowns
200x8 180x10 160x12 140x15 120x20
Vbar pulldowns
200x8 180x10 160x12 140x15 120x20
T-Bar(close grip)
160x8 135x10 110x12 85x15 60x20
shrugs
405x8 315x10 225x12 175x15 135x20
wide rows
200x8 180x10 160x12 140x15 120x20

Finish with pullups 5 sets of 10

Its an intense workout and remember you go straight through no break. Keep a spotter w/ you to help you through the set if you need it. if the spotter is helping you 2 much then drop the weight a little more. This workout builds some serious endurance for your muscles and strength. and wonderful for some no sweating.

Dropsets are good to bring out definition. It definitely pushes out all the glycogen.

I think they should be used near the end of the workout though. just an opinion though

my workout kinda goes in cycles.. taht is like a week 4 workout for me..
week 1 is a more conditioning workout( no crazy weight)
week 2 is more of a bulking week
week 3 is the same but more intense
week 4 dropsets

edit: really no one does a full workout of drop sets? i have been doing it for like 3 months now.. i guess it works for me so why not rite? i can get throught it pretty easily also.. i mean i dont really get THAT fatigued from it my friend does though lol... mainly with the chest workout.

Sometimes depending on wether I'm bulking or cutting I do my 5 usual sets of 5-8 reps then on my last & final 6th set, I'll drop set starting from the heaviest weight at 2 reps & drop it down accordingly by 10kg each set (22lbs) Then by using the same protocol all the way up till I hit 20 reps. Come by then my muscles are deep fried

(normally on machines I do drop sets, hardly ever on free weight as it become a pain in the ass especially when you partner's nowhere to be seen lol)

as said above, with me too when im cutting i always do my 4th and final set of each exercise dedicated to a drop set. but if its working for you and you're getting good gains out of it, stick with it and dont let anyone tell you differently.

The pump is not a very good indicator of growth or overload.

You're creating a lot of lactic acid doing drop sets, but if your goals is overall size then they're not very productive...albeit, they are fun and intense, but little over load.

Lactic acid doesn't stay in your muscles long.

In fact, your body produces it all day long and you're dealing with it right now. The only difference is that when training there is more of an overload of it.

when people say they are sore the next day, it has nothing to do with lactic acid.

Just throwing down some knowledge on you guys

and soreness is generally due to micro tears in the muscle fascia. While it feels productive, its not the best indicator of overload and growth.
