Hi!

More of a reader on this forum, but I had a problem I needed some help solving from you guys

Been training a 5x5 program, had a nice progress in the bench (70-ish to 80kg) but then I started to fall down, now I am down at 75kg :/
My problem is (neural) overtraining, so I have now stopped benching, but wondered how long time should I stay away from training chest?
And are there any other things I can to do speed up the recovery?

I figured I should switch program, since I can't focus so much on training. Do you guys have any nice programs to recommend for me?

Thanks in advance from Norway

How long have you been doing the routine? If you feel you're over trained rest for a week, then try working out with a bit of a switch up in the routine.

Doing the same thing for too long stunts your progress, I'd try to add variety in the workout, swap to dumbbells, do other exercises. Some times you just have a bad week also, you do a personal best and next week you can't do the same weight, it's just like that sometimes, if you went super heavy the week before you can always do a light workout next time.

I know that people switch up the workload, like doing reps with 65% 75% 80% 85% then back to 65% of their 1 rep max, there are all kinds of things.

I am sure more people will jump in.

One thing I know is if I felt I went too far and needed a break i would take one, one week off is much better than an injury, which takes weeks, months or may even be permanent.

When in doubt "go easy".

Have a WHOLE week off from training & recharge your batteries. Then back to the gym & hit it hard.

I too am almost at the point of overtraining myself but this week is the last week for high intensity crazy set training next week and the 4 weeks following is the laid back low set high weight training which goes fast and its good for cardio because it doesnt take everything out of you

You need to detrain.

Reduce volume and intensity for 2 weeks.

you should have a de-load week every 8-10 weeks. half the volume and nothing above 80% of any 1RM. as was quoted you could be having an off day/week. Have you been getting enough sleep?
