About 2 weeks ago I pulled 475 lbs., two weeks after I set the record at 450. My school is holding a "Lift-a-Thon" in order to raise money for much-needed weight-room renovations on April 5th, so I'm hoping to pull 495 or 500 in front of a big screaming crowd. I received advice to do rack-pulls and good-mornings in my back routine and they definately gave me a strength boost, so thank you all for the advice. Wish me luck!

Good luck. I would also suggest platform pulls to increase your power at the initiation of the movement.

What are your sticking points?

Nice Lifts how old are you? Are you using straps right now while pulling, if so I would quit using them and when you go back to them at the meet you will be alot stronger, or maybe Im just weird but that is what worked best for me. I started back just going no straps or any assistance and my max goes up much faster.

Good luck, hope you do well and get some tail out of it! (chicks dig arrogance, no matter what they say)

Thanks guys. I'm 18 and I did stop using straps until the competition. What are platform pulls? My sticking point is the lock-out.

Nice pull mate.

Platform pulls (not the terminology I use, but just going to assume) are where you extend the range of motion by standing on blocks, plates or something similar.

Since your lockout is your weak point you're more likely to benefit from rack pulls. Experiment with different heights until you find one that works best for you.

That's one way of addressing the issue. If you're lockout is weak, you can remedy this by either making your lockout stronger, or improving your speed off the ground and through the middle of the movement. By creating momentum you make the bar easier to lockout.

You can utilize bands, chains, speed deads, or the aforementioned platform pulls to achieve this.

Man, I remember the first time I pulled 500. I dont know about you guys but I have better memory for my biggest lifts than I do for my girlfriends birthday...

Rack Deads are a great thing to help you with your "sticking point", as everyone before me said!

Hope you pull the big 500 man, good luck!

Light Weight,
TheWall

You will hit 500 before you know it and then 600 which I have pulled before but that was a while back and it was like winning the lottery. I also used to do alot of cleans and that was when my deadlift was the heaviest, but that is personal preference but doing cleans helped me with the lockout alot.
