We know that before fat loss ,muscle preservation is #1 in pre-contest..

In pro IFBB dvd's u see jay, ronnie, dexter ..etc training like offseason with single sets using the same or near the same heavyweights ..

But if one is "natural" the training should be different ? like using a lot of advanced techniques like drop sets etc to keep up the fat furnace ?

IMO I have been training like 6 days a week on the last weeks pre-contest and I think that the training shouldnt differ from "Juicers"..and it could be training twice a day ..

sometimes we think that without the juice we cant push our bodies further at important times like pre contest ..

by the way ..good luck to everybody who is in the battle for a ripped body wether they want to look good on the beach or want to compete : )

I disagree.

Going overboard using drop sets, super sets, etc. all in an attempt to burn more calories while training and raise your metabolism will allow you to loose fat faster than heavy sets alone, however you will also sacrifice size as your myofibrils will shrink as an adaptation to all the endurance type work.

I feel HIIT cardio combined with heavy training to keep muscle size is a better option.

If you feel the need to use "advanced techniques" you should include 2 heavy sets per muscle group (5-7 reps) to maintain myofibril size. It takes much less work to maintain than to increase.

I actually put together a workout for one of my clients based on such, utilizing heavy sets of non-directly worked muscles on high rep directly worked muscle days.

Thanks for asking :)

I'm a strength and conditioning specialist; right now I work as a personal trainer. This summer (wish me luck, I have one last interview the 27th) I'll be an assistant strength and conditioning coach for the Connecticut Sun (a WNBA team).

But experience is everything. I've been training for almost 9 years now, and applying everything I've learned (sometimes successful, sometimes not) to my self. I've actually been around the boards since 2000. Took an extended vacation from 2004 until...now.

This fall I'll be at UConn pursuing a masters in exercise science with a focus in strength and conditioning. From there I want to work in the pro's (preferably the NFL) for a few years before going private and setting up a facility of my own.

It will maximize fat loss due to an increase in calorie expenditure.

As far as GH release, the more intense (%rm, generally 85-95) the greater the gh response. The more you get into endurance type training, the lower the gh and testosterone response and the greater the release of cortisol.
