You could also try doing ladders with your reps where you go up and down the ladder as many times as you like.1,2,3,2,1,2,3,2,1,2....as your top set goes up so does the ladder.1,2,3,4,3,2,1,2,3,2,1....

cheers Mark

91?????????????????? Now thats more than impressive. That ladder idea sounds good for starters and try and get a spotter.

I did pullups today as part of my back routine. I can do 50kg (after a seated row 7 sets) on the lat pulldown machine. I can do 3x12 reps. I expect my 1 rep max would be 70 to 80kg. As my body weight is 250lbs about 115kg I am going to have to build myself up before getting off the lat machine. Its a great exercise though. I need to work my lower lats especially.

When I started doing pull ups, wide grip especially I found my shoulders werent strong enough and werent used to the excercise and it hurt a little, just kept going and they quickly got over it tho

Keep progressing on the lat pull down, make sure your improving a little all the time then progress onto pull ups. Thats how I achieved it and now im doing weighted (10KG) ups! As for straps, they werent for me but everyone has different methods.

Great news fellas. I tried to work out using pull ups today since the squat rack that i usually do multiple exercises on was taken up the entire time i was at the gym.

The great news? My first set, i did 6 full blown reps, chin clearing handles and then going all the way down, no rocking. Second set, i got about 5.5. On the third set, i got about 5.

So, maybe these arent quite as hard as i thought they were, though i have dropped about 10-15 pounds since the last time i tried these. :)

Ideally you want to start with a aided pullup machine (if you have one). If not then start with chin ups and do that along with the lat pulldown. Wide grip. Make sure you dont screw up your wrists. Do it slow and have proper form.
