So ive been realizing latley being back in the gym more than usuall again. i always see people pushing way too hard at the gym. and alot of people think how do you push too hard...

its when youre spotter or even yourself say just one more rep!! and they push you for 3 or more reps and you are way too taxed out. or on those bicep curls you know you wont make another rep. so you think on the way down going as slow as you can will help and all.

and before anyone say you gotta push past thing and plateus and fatigue and what you thought you could do. Not always. You dont always have to go that extra rep or set and thats what alot of people dont realize is that even an extra rep or set can send you into overtaining land.

Ronnie Coleman almost always stopped a rep before what he knew he couldnt manage. and it was always cause he worked them twice a week. its because alot of times itll push you past the point of recovery and into protein and muscle breakdown. and overtraining. and i know alot of people think i always have to push till i cant anymore and thats how you train and how its been done.

try stopping a rep before you cant handle another rep. on all youre sets. not just youre last. you might be very surprised what it does for you and how well it really helps you out. i was one of those people who always pushed till i couldnt anymore all the time. and i was always overtraining and didnt realize why. i ate well, trained hard, worked my butt off. and it ended up being this one small detail that i didnt realize. someone at the gym said try it. and ive noticed it the most on my bench. in november i was benching like 150 pounds. i never really benched a whole lot before that and finally wanted to do something with it. and i pushed myself to hard everytime thinking itd do something. i got to like 165 pounds in december then this guy told me dont go to failure everytime try it like once a month if youre diet is going great. and since that its been a month and a half and im pressing 205 now and i could never get passed 165 back then. so to all the beginners and even older fellas. try im not saying youre training wrong or doing it wrong. just throwing it out there For Those Who Dont Already Know. or havent tried it

Great post, I will hardly ever go to failure. I am edging my bench on the way to 4 plates on each side with no shirt (405, finally, Im this close!). The one thing I have stuck with is no helped reps, I dont want help on a rep, if I need help I am going to heavy. I always pretend like I am the only one working out and I have to get this last rep and 99% of the time I dont need a spotter. I think assistance exercises are something that needs to be done away with. Anyways good post man.

I very rarely go to failure, mostly because I don't have a training partner
