I forget the name of the workout, it's when you're on the floor and you have your legs straight out in front of you, slightly bent at the knees and you reach for the vee bar with both hands and with a straight back, you pull on the vee bar which is attached to the cable and as you pull, you get he vee bar against your chest where you hold it for 2 seconds then extend your arms and repeat.

What is the name of the exercise and what body part does it work out?

Sounds like you're talking about a seated cable row?

Right, right.

Now why is it that I can cable row 200 lbs but it feels like nothing? What other exercise builds a strong back? The only one I can think of that I do is on Back day: lat pulldowns. I'm not nearly as strong in that one as I am in cable row; I do max 110 in normal wide grip and 120 in short reversed grip on the pulldowns.

Would all those lat pulldowns be giving me that strong back for all the seated rows?

Also, what do I do when I max out on seated row weights? Just maintain?

It's a cable exercise, the weight in pounds is arbitrary.

If it's too light, find a bigger stack or do some bent over rows, you won't max out a barbell.

i would say the reason why u can "lift" more weight in cable rows, is as mabo said...and the fact that the muscle ur working is really big...i think the biggest on the back...and u use a little bit of your arms too...try deadlifts...they're great for adding mass and strengh.

Also, when I go to the YMCA on the off-school days, they also have a cable machine, but there I can do the whole stack of 250 lbs... When I go back to college and use the exact same machine, I can only do 100 max. There are the same amount of pulleys and stuff, why can't I lift as much? I feel like weakling pulling down less than half...

Dont trust machines, the weight isn't what it appears to be, just realise the truth...there is no spoon, i mean weight
