Make sure you stretch properly while performing squats. Stretch the whole leg- calves, hamstrings, quads. Even stretch your back up. From your over head view looking down at your feet- make sure your knees don't go past your toes. Put the majority of the weight on your heals to do this. Drink water throughout your leg day. Don't wanna cramp up.

About your hamstring, usually happens when doing a good amount of weight and you're not used to or comfortable with it.

Hey, just adding to everything KM stated, u may want to just try doing a few reps with an unweighted bar prior to your warm up sets just to get a feel for the proper ROM of the exercise. Also look around on youtube to see how a squat is performed successfully. Checkout Ronnie Coleman on the 800lb squat. YEAH BUDDY!

Also if you're not comfortable with the weight on your back, walk around, up and down the cage to get a feel for the weight you're about to do.

From what I am told, (not from personal experience), stretching is horrible before exercises. And stretching cold muscles can cause tears especially without proper stretching. What I do to get ready for my squats, I usually run for about 2 minutes just to get the blood flowing and also just in general to wake me up for my workout and get the heart pumping. Without much warming up the legs, to tell you the truth, I stretch them legs a bit. Then getting ready for my squats, I go for my warm-up squat sets of course before hitting the real weight. And remember not to go extreme on your warm-up sets to tire you out for your working sets. Don't forget to include the warm-up sets. I do approximately 50 lbs + for each warm-up set untill I hit my working set. Also dropping the rep's by 1 starting from 5 for the warm-up sets. (Got this warm-up type from a book by Lou Schuler, and I've been using it every since I started going to the gym)
So heres what I mean:
45 x 5 (Warm-up)
95 (I just go straight for 135 lbs) x 4 (Warm-up)
185 x 3 (Warm-up)
225 x Working Set
XXX x Working Set
etc.
But theres many different ways to do warm-up sets, do what fits you.

Stretching before exercise won't cause injuries, nor has it been shown to reduce injury rates. It has however been shown to reduce your strength for up to 30 minutes afterwards.

You're better off doing light exercise that simulates what you'll be doing when you exercise.

For someone in your position, "bulk then cut", you're best off doing a few sets with just your bodyweight then gradually increasing the weight.

Good on you for finally starting to squat.

It will be uncomfortable at first; you will feel unstable, you'll probably feel scared of heavy weights, your back will get sore, you won't be able to walk for days, but it'll all pass.

Just keep your back straight and keep your body tight.

Cosign Mabo. Start out really light bro. Dont try to get crazy doing squats for the first few times. Use light weight and get that form down perfect before you try any kind of heavier weight. Your body is going to be really sore when you first begin doing squats. Good luck bro!
