box squats are a hoooorrrrrible idea. i see guys doing them in the gym, do they know what they are doing to there spine. every time you hit the chair, the weight on your back compresses the vertebra... those things dont grow back
also bulk.... if your knees feel unstable throw in some lunges and one legged squats

Usually, people use the chair as a reference to where they should go down to. Mostly, the people I see don't actually hit the chair. Maybe a light tap if anything

I can just picture you cringing watching a guy I train with on occasion; he does seated GMs and has gone as high as 405 for reps in the past.
Personally, I don't see a big problem with box squats, provided you stay tight and don't relax at the bottom. I find them really useful for teaching people how to squat, but it's almost more of a depth guide for these people.

i get what your saying... i guess im just used to seeing those over zealous guys doing them, but your right thay are a good way to teach the squat, i hadnt thought of that- Gunz
