cruches because sit ups put more of a strain on your back and the range of motion isn't always comfortable. I do crunches and they hit just as well and are easier to do. That's just my 2 cents others might say different.

Crunches are far better because doing a sit up your using your powerful hip flexors to do the movement. I also would like to know how sit ups put strain on your back?

its the way your back arcs when your doing the movement. there isnt a way to not do it. i would stick with crunches and hanging leg raises. i also like weighted rope crunches. but there is already a thread somewhere around here about how to train them.

Do both, sit-ups are more compound, crunches isolation. And compound training is better for mass as you all know.

Id say, forget about the situps. Ever since i changed my situp program to crunches ive seen double of the result in half the time. If you need mass, do heavy cable crunches. Well this is what works for me, and has worked in the last 2 years.

I guess the important this (as always when Body Building) is that you have good contact. And crunshes will hopefully make you get that sweet burnin' contact. Good Luck!

Depends on what your goals are. Yeah, crunches isolate the abs better than sit ups do, and yeah, sit ups work hip flexors, but that isnt always bad. If you do any sprinting, olpympic lifting, etc, the extra work on the hip flexors would only be helpful. For working abs, the crunch is better, but the sit up is not obsolete. If you can find the time, do both.
