The last couple of months i have really gotten sick of my health club. (I go to lifetime fitness) It is a pretty nice facility, but lately ive gotten pissed off at it. All of the wieghts are dissorganized, douchebags nagging u while your on a machine, people that stay on the only good machines for like 20min., ridiculously loud grunters(who are shrugging pussy weight), if i want to play basketball the courts are always full, and it just way to crowded. And much more.

So 3 sundays ago i started making my basement a gym, and have plans for quitting my health club. And so far i am loving it. I have a regular benchpress(nohin special and kinda old, but does the job), dumbells up to 50lbs., and a powertec workbench Powertec Workbench Leverage Gym available now at GymCor.com 1-800-482-4553 that I bought(for $600 at dicks) and assembled 3 weeks ago.(hey no bad comments on it, its a quality machine, even though i'm a big fan of free weights) Its got a ton of different workouts on it, and i have a little over 450lbs. in olympic sized weights. Also a couple of little things like a forearm trainer. we are also getting a tredmill (in like 2 weeks)

i had a couple of the things berfore just sitting around so there wasn't much money wasted, and so far on what i spents it a little over half of the yearly lifetime bill.

I was wondering if their is anything I am missing. My brother wants to get dumbbells from 55lbs. to 100lbs. (hes a strong boy), but he will be gone all of second semester cause hes going to Australia for a golf school, and he will be at college for the next four years anyway. So the dumbbells are not my biggest priority. What else do i need?

Probably the best peice of home equipment IMO to buy would be a power rack and an adjustable bench. Plus a shit load of free weight. Almost limitless. I know the machine your talking about too, i wouldnt rely fully on it, but rather work it in with you're normal free weight stuff. If you added the rack you would never have to leave home.

At my gym, I realize that I don't use all those fancy machines that most people do. As long as you've got the general, you're fine. Which you have.

^Cosign power rack and adjustable bench. That should be your only addition.

I already have the adjustably bench, but I will see if power rack will fit.(I don't know that we have room for it)

And as for getting a ton of free weights I already have alot(upwards of 450lbs for olympic wieghts) For my dumbbells though i only have like 90lbs total, so i think I might just buy some for 10lbs plates.

you could just buy olimpic dumbbells that take the same weights as the bar so you don't need to spend lots of $$$ of fixed weight db. Have a look at this to see what i mean Bodypower Olympic Dumbbell Handle (x1) i know your in america but it was just to show you what i mean.

I'm the complete oposite Robby. When i workout at my house i get in like this zone. For 1 hour all i am focused on is working out. Unlike at my gym were their were alot of distractions.

good for you, i find it very hard to keep focused in my garage but it beats having to walk to the gym or wait on machines.

Being in a gym keeps me real motivated also. Watching other people workout get me pumped. Everyone has the feeling to impress people also. For the first 3 months I trained, it was in my basement. I couldn't keep focused at all, guess no loud music, limited machine, what ever. I think you get the best gains where you're comfortable and feel focused. Looks like auburnman's got that so enjoy.
