I just read most of the Layne Norton article about the pre contest advice and I was reading the cardio section. It talks about doing cardio on your off days. But then it also says the high intesity and the low intensity and low volume and what not. what the hell is he talking about? Am I supposed to sprint to burn off more fat or am I supposed to jog longer to burn off fat? Sorry if this has been discussed before but I didnt find any discussions like this. I'm sure Freak is gonna attack me about fat burning =] or hopefully haha. But on a serious note, what and when am I supposed to do for cardio? Layne confused me further more.

You just need to re-read the article again. High intensity is most effective.

there are different types of training techniques for cardio...which is the most effective is arguable. if you are looking to try a specific cardio regime try High Intensity Interval Training (HIIT). this is where (say for example you are jogging for cardio), you jog for an interval of 4minutes, and then after them 4minutes of jogging, you flat out sprint for 1minute, after which you jog for another 4minutes, then 1minute of sprinting...etc

as Freak said, re-read the article and you may understand it

The good thing about jogging and sprinting is you don't need to pay any money to do it. Parks are free! It seems like everything else in this sport costs a lot of money. The food, the gym membership, etc.

I live next to a nice park and I'm extremely overweight, so some solid cardio several times a week is just the ticket I need!

Does anyone know if I need to do more cardio than a typical bodybuilder, since I'm overweight?

I believe the answer to your question is no.. Consistancy and diet is / should be your main focus.

hmmm thanks guys, ya Freak I read the article again, still confusing just not as much, but I do understand the HIT and I"m gonna start doing that. Jogging for 4 mins then sprinting for 1. I dont know how much or how long since I havent done cardio in over 2 months. If I dont post again at the dungeon send some flowers to my mom with a card saying to carry me up the stairs :)
