when i attempt a dip, or even dips on machines, but mainly real dips on paralel bars, my chest freaking hurts like hell. either in the middle of my pecs, lower and upper chest, and this prevents me from performing dips. besides my triceps getting stronger, and dropping body fat, is my chest weakness the problem?

It's a burning feeling, it's good. Dips involves shoulder, chest and triceps. Strengthening all 3 would help you on dips. The pain is fine, i get the same. Just keep doign them.

Is this pain or the burn from lactose acid build up?

If it is pain then something is wrong. If you go too deep with dips this can cause problems with the shoulders and the chest.
Stop doing them for a few weeks to allow time to heel then try them again but not going as deep as see how you feel.

Also another tip for dips.

Don't lock your elbows when completing a repetition, it causes joint pains.

it can be 2 things:

1. Lactic acid/burn... this is good

2. wrong technique... this is bad...

Do u have a nogravity machine at ur gym?

Well if its a pain not burn then there is a problem.Dont do them for now just to prevent further injury.
I personally cant do dips because of my shoulder.
If you are doing dips for the tris keep your upper body straight up this puts most of the strain on the tris not the chest. If you are working chest then bend your upper half at an angle

i know exacly what your doing. When u go down u let your arms go out instead of back. When u let your arms go out it puts a massive amount of strain on your chest. If u focuse on tucking your arms in and to your sides and the pain will go away.

I used to the the same thing until someone told me. Although its fine to put your arms out if u want to workout your chest more.

The ROM stays the same, keeping your arms out would be doing the exercise incorrectly.

in the past when i would do dips, i would get a sharp pain in my sternum, dont know what is was from, never got it checked. just quit doing them for a while and went back to them later. best advice i can give is try another exercise thats similar. see if it hurts... if it still does, get it checked
