does any one else ever get kind of scared while lifting...i will explain.. yesterday i had to knock out...455lbs 4 times on squats...(real sqauts) and i started to feel nervous and almost scared of it. keep in mind i lift by myelf, well i went down fro the first one and i struggled to get it up,(the lift , that is) so i put it away.... i was too scared to try the second one. sometimes it happens on bench too. i guess i should start asking for spots before i end up on youtube as "workout gone wrong". but the thing is.....not very many people know how to spot the squat correctly. any of you have that problem? ....about the spotters, what do you do?

I know how you feel man, for sure. I work out solo and when I ask other people for spots, I make sure they are clear on how I want them to spot me. I wouldn't say I get full fledged "scared", but yeah its nervy (that's not even a word but it works, haha).

if i'm pushing some heavy weight on squats, i'll set the safety bars correctly so i can bail easily.

have faith in the safety bars, that should ease your fears

i hate the safety bars they are life savers but i always get stuck under them ha. i hate crappy spotters on bench, you struggle a lil on a rep so they pick the whole thing up??!! i think if people have a gym membership they should have to take spotter classes or somthing.

its alwez good to have spotters around.
just yesterday i was under the leg press machine and was doing around 500kg. ths nt a lot of weight but being a tall guy, its hard to get the weight down with complete control afer i finish the set.so i lowered the weight down and i closed the clamps to hold the weight but i frgt tyhe one on the left...it cdve been bad as i had reached failure and aftera certain point the weight is no longer under control.
alwez be safe.

LOL how do you get stuck UNDER them? And dude... about the spotter class, that's actually a pretty good idea.

Also work for a good pickup line.
"Are you spotter certified? Cause you sure do know how to back that ass up!"

Sorry I'm bored and caffeinated at work.

yea 42gunz i experience that as well. but then again i always go all out when my cousin is around and i have taught him how to spot correctly with the necessary lifts, also he knows me and knows when i do and when i dont need a spot. not a fan of spotters who see you start to struggle and lift the weight up themselves, throwing off your balance and 2-3 reps away from your limit. safety bars i use when my cousin isn't around to lift with me, and they come in handy. try it out and see how it goes.

If I'm ever doing a potentially dangerous exercise, I get a bit concerned. Like deadlifts for example. If I'm going as high as 500+ LBS, I get worried that if I do it wrong, then I'm fucked. But I know that if I don't think I can do it, I just put my hands on the bar, do a test pull, and if I think I'm putting myself in danger, I just walk away without hurting myself. Too many injuries from pervious things that I know better. Broken toes, torn ACL, Torn Pec, broken wrist, broken ankle, pulled hamstring, broken 2 fingers, etc.

Yeah I get that feeling when I squat without safety pins sometimes. I have trouble trusting spotters too.

Best thing for squatting is like the other guys have said, just set the safety pins up correctly. If you get stuck, just ride the bar back down to the pins. Dropping the bar hard onto the pins should be an absolute last resort - it's about the worst thing you can do to a barbell.

Fear keeps you sharp, it keeps you awake you know what I mean it makes you want to survive, you know what I mean. But the thing is you gotta learn how to control it alright, cause Fear is like this fire alright.

Yup, yup. Having some fear is ok, especially when going heavy. Important thing about the fight or flight response, its better for lifting if your in the fight mode. Fear is a part of trying something new, the combination of fear, and anticipation and the ARRRRRRRRRRRRRU.
