btw when i do a search, either thers nothing on the topic of deadlifting or squats, or something bcus nothing ever comes up and it pisses me off, it just goes to the main training page, and i do a search again, same thing. but anyway i have questions about the deadlift and squat. i did searches on bodybuilding.com but i need your guys' opinions bcus there are so many variations aon that site. DEADLIFT- r u suposed to arch ur bak , keep it straight, or round it during the excercise? i arch it slightly. and also i do the variation related to stiff legged deadlift, is it ok if u do not bend your knees AT ALL, or should u a little. also SQUATTING- i have never done these in my life bcus i am afraid of injury but a pervious thread i made before you guys helped me realize squats are just as important (thank you) ok so squatting, you arch your back correct? and wher do you keep the bar? on your neck? and if u do wat do u use to support it on your neck? do you use your neck to rest the bar?> or do you hold it? i am sorry for all the questions, but websites have so many different explanations and different theories and you guys help me the most! thank you guys!

Sup man. When i deadlift i arch my back very slightly. I would also try to bend your knees slightly because other wise, you put too much strain on your back which could lead to injury. The exercise is for your Hamstrings and Glutes, as well as some lower back.

With squats, the most common squat is (like you said, bar on your neck). Again- arch your back very slightly. You can also do a front squat where the the bar rests on your deltoids (focuses on quads). Either, or- very important to bodybuilding.. critical and muscle gains.

Generally if you have specific questions about training form or tips use Bodybuilding.com - #1 Exercises Guide - Over 300 Exercises!.

Hope I helped.

I don't know about you guys, but resting the bar right on your neck for squats F'n hurts. I don't know how you do it. I rest the bar at a lower spot, across the posterior deltoids at the middle of the traps. When you flex your back a little, it's a perfect fit for the bar.

i also prefer putting the bar in the middle of the traps. it just feels better all the way through. only problem with that is you get that nice callus in the middle of your back and it itches all day...then when you put lotion it burns...... i guess thats just the price we pay

Ha yeah, when I first started putting the bar lower, my back would kill me after leg days. Eventually the nerves died off and it's all good now.

I wouldn't put the bar on your neck, when you go heavier it can be dangerous. You also should never curve your back during squats at all, never, never, never.

Bar should be around here

Your back should look like this

And through the excercise
