Well i have decided that I'm going to go to the army.

Because it is probably the best thing that i can do for myself right now.

But I was wondering if there was anybody on here that has been to basic?

And if you have, could you tell me how it was and what you think i need to work on before i get there?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

My goal is to loose around 40 pounds in the next 6 months before i sign up.

Loosing the weight will not be a big deal.

Here is my work out routine.

In the morning-

2 mile run (I average 21 minutes)
10 hills (1/5 mile hill )
52 push ups in 2 minutes
46 sit ups in 2 minutes

At night-

1 mile run (11 minutes)
52 push ups in 2 minutes
46 sit ups in 2 minutes

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

I am going to work up to pulling a tire in my running. Then i will start to lift weights.

and i have someone near me that has an obstacle course that he will let me use.

Any advise will be appreciated.

Go to army website/forums and about.com for structured programs that will allow you to progress and meet the requirements. The first few weeks DO NOT, I repeat DO NOT run everyday. You are at very high risk for injury. Check out army's site for specific details.

Make sure your nutrition is top notch to help you recover.

fruits, vegetables, whole grains, lean meats, complex carbs, plenty of water, at least 1gal/day.

Cardio imo will make or break you. Stay strong and thank you for your service! Let us know if you have any additional questions or concerns.

and sure...

Here you can get to the discussion board (on the right hand column 3/4 of the way down the page)

GoArmy.com > Soldier Life > Becoming a Soldier > Basic Combat Training

This is for Seals but there are many other articles on there:

Gives you an idea:

Navy SEALs Workout

i say mate do ALOT of running in all types of weather at any time of day or night for hours if you have the time. id also try doing it with a backpack filled with books or something heavy.

do 400 push ups and 400 sit ups a day, maybe more

bench press - squat - deadlift

im not sure what the training is actually like but i imagine they want warriors who can carry all thier gear, thier pack, rifle and ammo across great distances at speed.
best of luck.

I would shy away from the deadlift because if you do anything to your back good luck running... Core work will definitely help you out in all areas from strength to cardio.

Do your running, push-ups, sit-ups, pull ups and the other stuff included in the websites and get your stamina up. You start now you will be miles ahead of everyone else.

Best of luck. Keep you head up and repect them, they will repect you. Be all you can be!

In general work on your upper body strength, shoulder's, tris, bis, forearm strength! endurance for your legs. ( for running mostly)

Your going to need it and alot of it for the courses and obstacles you will be training on.

Following with what freak mentioned, your core too very important.

Hand to hand combat will be a true test of you falling or staying on your feet.

I trained at the air force training facility in Kessler AFB in Mississippi.

It was my old man's way of giving me a taste of military life and what I needed to know to become a man. After my stint doing that, I was ordered back on the KC135 and shipped back to Pittsburgh.
