I wouldn't really call this an injury but it's happened a couple times so I'm wondering if it's a supplement, exercise or what.

Today, I was doing biceps and I started off with barbell curls. Nothing extreme but enough that I was getting 6-8 reps for 4 sets. During the exercise my forearms were fine but when I set the barbell down and opened my hands to release it, I got a shooting pain through my forearms. It felt like it was between the outside of my forearm muscle and the bone in my arms. It felt like shin splints through my forearms. Forearms splints anyone?

I just wanted to know if anyone else had experienced this and what they found helped most. Thanks guys, for any forthcoming responses.

Yep! I knew the pain you would be referencing before I opened the thread. We had a thread about this before. I have had it and so have many others. What it comes down to is just taking time off of bicep curls. Take a few days to a week off. No you won't lose a bunch of muscle due to disuse atrophy.

One time i had an ache in my right forearm, and what i did is instead of barbell curls i changed it for hammer curls, you could try it to see if the pain persist

Luck!

hammer curls take alot of the weight off of the bis tho... placing it more on the brachialis. I had this for a while too, basically i just cut out direct forearm work for a while and it seemed to help... mine was diagnosed as tendonitis. This may or may not be relevant in your case, but the pain you described was very similar to mine.

Have been diagnosed with tendonitous myself. It sucks. My forearms dont have pain too much, mostly in my shoulders/wrists. Doc said it was from playing drums for so many years without stretching properly.
Was on a prescription inflamatory for a while, but shit was expensive so now I just pop ibuprophen and it helps a lot.

Try Wrist Wraps and/or just basic Straps. This is really the over work of the forearm (lonley guy? right handed?).

Also what I did to relieve pain was I pretty much let my writs roll back some with the bar in my hands and curl, this concentrates the curl to the bicep, takes alot of strain off the forearm, and thus relieving pain. (at least it did for myself)

Good Luck,
TheWall

Just as most people have said on here, I have had this pain many many times with the "easy" curl bar. Someone at my gym (A big dude with a lot of experience) once told me to try and not squeeze the bar as much and try and focus more on the bicep movement. I know you still have to hold the bar, but just try and not focusing on the tension of your hands.
