I've got pretty bad knees, but I want to get my legs bigger. I can use medium weight fine but I'm afraid to push it too far and need surgery. I guess my plan now is using light/medium weight and gradually building sinew and joint strengh. Any advice on good exercises, form tweaking, etc? Thanks

Yea I could use this advice too because I hurt my knee 2 years ago and I can't do full squats, leg presses, or lunges anymore.

i have bad knees myself and they get sore after a leg workout, i would work your way up slowly and when you feel comfortable with bigger weight start wrapping your knees. the wraps will act like extra tendons and ligaments in a way and will absord alot of the strees insyead of just the tissue

i used to have really bad knee problems because when i was a little kid i always sat on my knees and the tendons and ligaments got stretched out. now they're still pretty bad but they actually got better since i started squatting a lot because it added some size to them. id recommend going heavy but not going rull ROM

tore my meniscus and getting that repaired. unless you get surgery you will never fully be able to push yourself to 100%, however i do not know the extent of your knee, so as far as pushing yourself to the limit, that is on you. i wouldn't recommend it though for fear of doing more extensive damage, if its tendonitis pop a couple ibuprofine or a pain reliever a half hour pre wo.

i would recommend going to the doctor and asking them if you can train to tolerance, if they tell you that go balls to the wall if you can take the pain, because you couldn't do any more damage then whats already done, if you are maxing with squats, then you may also risk hurting more than just your knee's...be careful and i would see a doctor before maxing out. wish you the best.

My knees.....in high school I had osgood slaughters pretty bad, and still have never quite fully recovered from the damage I did. This summer I damaged something different in my left knee and the pain was terrible. Never got it checked out 'cause I had no insurance, but I just babied it for 5 months and things seem to be almost normal now. I will def use those wraps. What's a good place to get them, online? So thanks guys for the advice, keep it coming if you have more!

Thanks Kirk. You think I would need an MRI or something at the doc's?

i still haev bad knees and ankles.. i have hyper esxted ligaments and no fluids on my knees.. The first time i started working out my legs they swole up and i could barely walk for 2 weeks.. but i continue to workout my legs and i can truely say that that will help.. I can go super heavy now and not feel and pain in the jints or bones.. ill feel the usual soreness but thats about it.. I reccomend do squats and leg presses only to ur tolerance and then work ur way up from there after they recover and dont b afraid to go heavy..

Yeah I would see a professional and see whats going on down there. If its something not to serious I would stick with machines for now until they heal. But its good that you want to get back into it becuase legs are very important.

Ya I don't want to have a big upper body with no support lol. I worked legs last last night. They hurt, so I warmed up high reps low weight to get them loose, and then went heavier and it didn't hurt much.
